MG, is it a photo or a painting?
There is a difference between photography and painting
1. Photography tends to be on-site and objective; painting tends to be hypothetical and idealistic.
The sense of presence and objectivity of photography are determined by the physical characteristics of photographic equipment such as cameras, photosensitive films, etc. Throughout the entire process of photography, science and technology must be resorted to many times, and machines must be used as assistants. Without the mechanical function of the camera itself and the darkroom process, the production of photographic works would be impossible. This is not the case with painting. With a brush, a piece of paper (or a piece of cloth), and paint, the artist can paint as he pleases and write happily.
2. Instantaneous performance.
Both photography and painting freeze moments. However, the way photography freezes moments is strictly limited by heaven, earth, and people. As the saying goes, "The opportunity cannot be missed, it will never come again." This is what this store means. "The photographer can only complete it in an instant. He cannot delay, pause, revise, or think about it again. The moment he turns on the lens, all the details are recorded, even faster than he can remember with his brain." Wei Wei The painting "Looking at Photography through Photography" is different. Although it can only express a certain historical moment or a certain section of life, it appears calm and free. The painter can condense the repeatedly conceived moment and keep it in his heart. , and then reflected it confidently in the studio. The moments in painting are achieved by the artist experiencing life, deciding on the theme, imagining the picture, making drafts, revising repeatedly, and finally being fixed. The moments in photography are what the photographer sees, thinks about, and captures on the spot. The focus of painting is restricted by the natural and physiological conditions of the human eye. A painter can only paint what the human eye sees. For example, when it comes to the drawing of the four hooves of a running horse, there was an ongoing debate over which hoof touched the ground. Photography is a scientific record, and it can often capture things that the human eye cannot see, because the camera lens is more accurate than the human eye when it comes to observing things. Human vision can only stay at the first level of cognition, while lens vision can even extend to the inside of the atomic nucleus.
3. The application of light and shadow.
The recording function of light is the specialty of photography. It can be said that photography uses light to express thoughts and record emotions. The performance of light in painting is slightly inferior. Photography uses the language of light to create shapes, so some people call photography “light painting.” In the use of light, photography has influenced painting, improved painting skills, and perfected the expression of painting. Color photography, in particular, provides light that cannot be sensed by the painter's eyes.
4. Realism
Photography relies on the mechanical and optical properties of the camera to give the most direct and realistic depiction of the object it wants to express, which is unmatched by painting. To express a person, a photo can be of the person, while a painting can only resemble the person. Painting can be "realistic", while photography can be "documentary". In photography, the person photographed in the picture, Zhang San, is Zhang San, not Li Si. The scene in the picture, Guilin, is Guilin, not Taihu Lake. Therefore, photography cannot use fictitious and shaping techniques like painting to create a "typical" of photography. Although photography and painting both rely on tools, the camera imposes more restrictive constraints on the artist than the paintbrush does. It is not possible to use the method of controlling the brush against the objective documentary characteristics of capturing the scene of the camera.
Photography and painting are two different art categories, each with different characteristics, so they cannot be confused.
