A Brief Introduction to Harmon Colin's Life

1973 was born in California, grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, and moved to new york to live with her grandmother. Colin's "Youth" is accompanied by the works of directors such as Kasavi, Herzog, Godard, fassbinder and Alan Clarke, and his biological father is also an independent director. He used to be a screenwriter at new york University, but soon dropped out of school and became a stripper. One day, while skating with his friends in Washington Square, he met the photographer Larry Clarke, who showed him a story he wrote about a boy who was taken to prostitution by his father. With Clark's encouragement, this story was integrated into more details of Colin's real life and eventually became the script of Half-cooked Boy. The film mainly tracks the experiences of Manhattan teenagers in the shadow of AIDS and drugs. The film has been affirmed by film critics, but not many people have seen it so far because of the grade of NC 17.

Two years later, Colin directed his debut novel Strange Boys, which is a more disturbing experimental work. During the premiere of the Telluride Film Festival, many viewers left because they couldn't stand a scene of drowning a cat, but it was praised by the German master Herzog at the subsequent press conference. The film also won the film critic award at the Venice Film Festival, although its obscurity was criticized by mainstream film critics.

From 65438 to 0998, Colin directed Julian the Donkey Child, which is the sixth film made according to the Declaration of Dogma, but it did not follow some rules of Dogma. Danish director Lars von Trier praised Colin's creative interpretation of dogma. Roger Abbott, a mainstream film critic, gave the film three stars, saying it was completely different from those commercial films that brazenly called themselves independent films.

In 2002, Larry Clarke filmed Discontinuous Heaven and Earth. Although the script was written by Colin, the two had already parted ways because of their creative differences. For a long time after that, Colin actually went through a dark period in his life. His relationship with his girlfriend Chlo Sevigny ended because of uncontrollable drugs and drug abuse. In an interview, he recalled: "I started making movies when I was very young, which was easy for me." However, at a certain stage, "I began to lose control of everything, and the situation made me feel very painful." Things are getting unclear, and people are getting farther and farther away from me. I am exhausted, and the movies I once loved no longer make me care. I fell into deeper and deeper darkness. To tell the truth, movies are the last thing I think of. I don't know if I can survive. My dream will be shattered. Unhealthy me. Maybe this is a stage I have to go through. "

In 2006, Colin began to direct his third feature film, Mr. Loneliness, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival the following year and was released on a small scale in 2008. The film stars Diego Luna and samantha morton, and Herzog makes a guest appearance again after The Donkey Child, which mainly tells the story of many actors who imitate celebrities in a Scottish castle. Although the form is much more interesting, it is still the most bizarre and obscure film in Cannes among many films with different styles. Maybe as Ge Sophomore said, "I want to make a normal movie, but I just can't."
