Dark oil painting award

Throughout the ages, people all over the world have a unique understanding of color. They express their thoughts and feelings through colors, but the same color may have different or even opposite meanings in different cultural atmospheres. The symbolic significance of color in different cultural traditions is roughly as follows:

Tenebrism refers to a painting style formed at the beginning of17th century under the influence of Italian painter Caravaggio. His works are low in tone and dark in tone, and he often uses contrast between light and shade to highlight the main objects with strong shadows of light and shade. Usually, the main objects painted by dark painters are set off by a single light source, just as the objects are only illuminated by a beam of light, and the exterior of the main objects is in darkness. This kind of painting is usually called dark night painting.

Let's enjoy the dark oil painting together!

The martyrdom of St. Andrew Jusepe De Ribera

Description of the painting:

The Martyrdom of San Andreas is a religious painting created by Jusepe De Ribera, numbered 1628, which is now in the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts. The picture is similar to the night scene, full of mystery, and the body of St. Andre spans the foreground from left to right. Andre is the younger brother of Peter, the great disciple of Jesus, and a fisherman on Lake Galilee. He and his brothers followed Jesus. After the death of Jesus, the church was persecuted in Jerusalem. At that time, Paul arrested Jesus' disciples everywhere. After Paul became a believer, Christians were still persecuted, and these disciples had to flee separately. Andre sailed to several countries along the Mediterranean coast to spread the gospel to Jews. Later, Andre went to Patra in Achaia province of Roman Empire, where he was arrested. Andre was crucified, but he was fearless. Before he was crucified, he gave a wonderful speech to the onlookers on the execution ground, and then he died without hesitation. Andre's last sermon annoyed the executioners. They made Andrew's cross into an X-shape, and Andrew's whole body was crucified obliquely. Since then, this X-shaped cross has been called the "Cross of San Andreas". Painters who prefer volume and black-and-white contrast don't like baroque dynamics. There is no commotion in their paintings, but they can feel a kind of spiritual shock.

Maria Magdalene in Two Flames-Georges De La Tour

Maria Magdalene in front of the mirror-Georges De La Tour

Mary Magdalene repented-Georges De La Tour

Description of the painting:

Latour is a master who is good at depicting light and shadow in the art history of17th century. In the long history of art, he is a very mysterious painter. He had fame and fortune before his death, but he was unknown after his death. His works are implicit and quiet, with a sense of mystery about life and death or the theme of religious paintings. He likes to express candlelight, which is very rare in the concept of "classical painting" at that time. His masterpiece "The Confessed Mary Magdalene" (and "The Oil Lamp in front of Magdalene") has its own uniqueness in the treatment of characters, which creates a simple image revealing sadness. Unlike other paintings, it looks full of secular feasts and gorgeous clothes, and there are only sober, quiet and sad reflections. This painting depicts Maria Magdalene, a former prostitute, who is meditating and confessing her past sins. A skull on her leg reminded her to face death squarely. Latour created a prostitute Maria, which is different from ordinary people's impression. Although he also draws inspiration from life like Caravaggio, his purpose is not the content of these works, but the specific technology, schema and style he yearns for. This not only made him finally abandon Caravaggio's Sunshine and choose his stylized Candlelight, but also established his own way of handling it. Latour almost became a loner in his research direction. Together with Pu Sang and Roland, he constructed the tradition of French art classicism.

Judith beheaded Holoforny Gentileschi.

Description of the painting:

Judith decapitates Holoforny (Judith decapitates) The painting by artemisia gentileschi, an early Italian baroque artist, was completed on 16 10 and is now in the National Capodimonte Museum in Naples, Italy. The scene shown in this work is very common in early Renaissance art, which belongs to the theme of "female power" in the mouth of art critics, and shows that women win over powerful men.
