Photography skills of beach portrait

Compared with other scenic spots, it is more difficult to shoot portraits on the beach. So what skills can you use to take portrait photography at the seaside? The following are the beach portrait photography skills I have compiled for you, hoping to help you!

Beach Portrait Photography Skills: Timing

The beach lacks shelter, and it is sunny during the day, but the light is too straight and dark, so it is difficult to take beautiful photos of the beach.

There is a great difference in light between bright and dark levels. If you are not careful, the photos you take will be seriously overexposed, or there will be dark shadows.

There are many tourists at the seaside during the day, and the picture is messy. Try to choose before ten o'clock in the morning, or from four o'clock in the afternoon to evening. The light is softer and the angle is more inclined. All objects can cast long shadows without being too stiff. At this time, the light is no longer the top light. Under a certain angle formed by the sun and the ground, the characters appear three-dimensional and layered.

Beach portrait photography skills: used up

1. The basic principle of photographic light: balance the light reflection of each content in the scene. Avoid large areas of bright light (such as the sun and mirrors), and adjust the posture or fill the light when the subject is dark.

2. Sunlight shooting is more suitable for landscape photography, which can shoot the bluest sky and the clearest sea water, and portrait shooting by the sea. Sunlight can naturally take care of people and the environment. Its disadvantages are: when the sun is strong, the model can't open his eyes, and the plain light is easy to bring a dull picture, so the sun is generally suitable for early morning and evening, or the scenery is the main one, and people are just wide-angle photos as decorations.

Backlight or side backlight is a common way of portrait lighting. People will have beautiful silhouette light, and will not show embarrassed eyes because of strong light. However, under the backlight and side backlight, if we don't pay attention to the supplementary light, we can't take care of it: if the seawater is exposed normally, people's faces will darken, but when we expose people's faces normally, the seawater will turn white and lose details.

Backlight is suitable for close-up of people. Try to choose a cool and dark background (rocks, docked ships) when shooting, and make up as much light as possible. Fill light skills: reflector, flash (external flash, reduce the output power by about 1EV, or add a soft light lampshade), exposure compensation, and later software compensation.

3. Top light strategy.

In addition to filling the light, another good way to shoot in the top light environment is to actively create a balanced shadow on the face, such as walking under a big umbrella on the beach, wearing a wide-brimmed sun hat, or pulling up a scarf or tulle clothes to let the sun shine in, instead of directly illuminating the face to avoid ugly shadows under the eyes. When shooting this kind of image, you can slightly increase the exposure compensation, or use spot metering to measure the face, so as not to make the face look too dull.

Techniques of Beach Portrait Photography: Composition and Perspective

Composition mainly depends on feeling, based on personal aesthetics, more practice and observation can improve it.

Basic composition principles: three-point principle (nine squares), triangle, symmetrical composition, etc.

Difficulties in seaside composition: monotonous background and little content. The horizontal line connecting the sea and the sky can easily cause the feeling that the picture is split in two.

1. Position the horizon (sea level) in one third of the picture by using the trisection of the composition. When islands and reefs and ships appear on the horizon, the sense of division will weaken.

2. Try other sea-sky ratios according to real scenes. For example, when there are many beautiful clouds, the proportion of the sky can be increased (about 30-40%). On the contrary, if there are few clouds, you can consider reducing the proportion of the sky to avoid the photos being too empty.

3. When shooting portraits, when the horizon is a solid line, avoid putting the horizontal line on the head or neck, and it is not suitable to put it on the waist when the picture is too single. You can blur the background with a large aperture, weaken the horizontal line, or shoot against the light to accurately expose the brightness of the face and make Haitian slightly overexposed.

4. Banner photos can show both people and the environment. People are best placed in 1/3 (except for symmetrical composition), and the posture in the distance should be 2/3 in front, 1/3 in the back, and the rest postures depend on the situation.

When filming at the seaside, it's stormy and windy, so you should pay attention to maintaining your own equipment.
