How to evaluate Wang Fuzhi
Wang Fuzhi's philosophical thought is the essence of the spirit of the times under the special historical conditions of China in the17th century, which occupies a high position in the history of China's philosophy. It was not until after the Opium War that progressive thinkers in China sought the ideological weapon of national self-help, and Wang Fuzhi's works were taken seriously, compiled into "Chuanshan's suicide note", published many times and circulated in China. After the founding of New China, attention was paid to the collation and publication of Wang Fuzhi's posthumous works and the collection and publication of lost articles. Japan, the Soviet Union and European and American countries all have translations of Chuanshan's works and poems, and Wang Fuzhi's academic legacy has become the ideological wealth of mankind. Professor Ge pointed out in his article that "the feudal monarch can't be changed, only the specific measures and systems can be changed, and the feudal thought can't be changed, only individual methods and viewpoints can be changed, which has become an eternal contradiction in Wang Fuzhi's thought. Intellectually, he acknowledged the philosophical proposition of "the trend of the times" or "rationality", but emotionally, he could not accept the real "trend", whether against traditional heresy or against the peasant uprising of feudal dynasty. He is keen and pedantic, seeing the inevitability of the overall historical change, but he is constrained by the conservative thoughts accumulated for many years in countless specific historical theories. Therefore, when he pointedly put forward many novel ideas, he also lashed out at the same novel heretical ideas. When Zhang asked him to join the uprising team, he "injured his wrist and never died", but when the Qing soldiers went south, he resisted sending troops and confused the national justice with the idea of loyalty to the monarch. After the failure, he retired to Ishikawa Mountain and wrote down his own thoughts. In his later years, he was in poor health and lived in poverty. When writing, he relies on the help of his friends. Although Wang Fuzhi was ill, he thought it was a legacy of the Ming Dynasty. He refused to meet with officials of the Qing court, and did not accept gifts. He wrote a couplet to express his feelings: the breeze deliberately made it difficult for me to stay, and the moon was careless of others. Qing refers to the Qing court, and Ming refers to the Ming dynasty. Wang Fuzhi used this pair to express his festival.
