Life perception of war horse film critics
I watched Spielberg's new film "War Horse" on the Internet during the Spring Festival, which was very shocking and unforgettable. More than a month has passed, but I still can't help writing some thoughts.
Compared with Saving Private Ryan, which describes World War II, War Horse, which reflects World War I, is a film with a deeper anti-war theme, but it is completely different from Private in style. Private is more realistic, reflecting the cruelty of war with naked blood and fire, broken arms and limbs flying all over the sky, and life-and-death melee. "War Horse" is more freehand, with few bloody killing scenes, and even the plot of the German army shooting two deserters, which is not only handled with foresight, but also covered the shooting moment with the rotating blades of the windmill in front of the camera. However, this does not mean that the description of the cruelty of war has been weakened. On the contrary, compared with blood and fire, which are prone to physiological reactions, this implicit description makes people have a deep dislike of war and death and pity for life. Especially when two horses that lost their owners were captured by the Germans and worked as coolies dragging wounded soldiers and cannons in the logistics department, the dark horse was overwhelmed, his knees were worn out and he was dying. I believe that anyone who sees it will be moved by it, and the heart of concealment will arise. The fate of horses is still like this, let alone people.
This war horse Joe is far away from his master. He suffered a lot in the war-torn battlefield. He changed several owners, one for the British, one for the French and one for the Germans. No matter what nationality, these "temporary" owners have a * * * similarity in the whirlpool of war. It is in such a huge black hole that constantly devours life that their fate is not up to them. A small individual in front of the monster of war.
Spielberg did not deliberately spend a lot of pen and ink to expose the horror of war, but the handling of the lens in several scenes firmly grasped the hearts of the audience.
Scene 1: British cavalry raided the German camp and unfortunately fell into a trap carefully arranged by the Germans. In front of Maxim's machine gun position, that open field is death and hell. The lens shows that the defeated Germans retreated to the edge of the forest and entered the pre-arranged machine gun position. One of the shots is a close-up of Maxim's machine gun. It is such a cold-blooded killer that became the most murderous weapon in the First World War. According to records, in the Battle of the Somme, 20,000 people were killed in front of German machine gun positions by British and French allied forces in just one day. At present, it is a piece of cake to use it to destroy these unguarded cavalry. When the British commander found that they were about to face the "sickle of death", the fear in his eyes seemed to see the ferocious face of death with his own eyes. The next step is shooting, shooting constantly ... Spielberg didn't spend much effort and money shooting the scene of the British army tumbling down in the hail, which may make some fans who like bloody violence dissatisfied, but the cruelty of the war has been unobstructed. After the gunfire stopped, the German soldiers got up from the bunker and prepared to clean up the battlefield. This is another close-up. The muzzle of Maxim's machine gun puffed with smoke, reminiscent of a lion who had just had a full meal, licking his lips contentedly ... On the British side, except for the commander who was frightened and captured alive by the Germans, only the horse that lost its owner ran aimlessly in the forest ... When the lens was rolled up and the panoramic view of the battlefield was panoramic, it was still heroic a few minutes ago. Cavalry, the ancient arms, finally declared that after human beings entered industrial civilization, they withdrew from the historical stage with more advanced killing weapons.
Scene 2: Albert and his partner are looking for progress in the trench. The Germans fired gas bombs. Without warning, the soldiers had no time to wear gas masks. When a gas bomb fell from the sky on their side, Albert's partner only shouted his name and was swallowed up by yellow gas. Albert himself was poisoned and blind. Just like the scene of machine guns shooting at cavalry, every soldier is a living individual. As soldiers, of course, they are eager to go into battle to kill the enemy and win honor, but in the face of death, their fear of death and their desire for life are more real. The most disgusting thing about war is that it keeps devouring people like a monster who will never get enough to eat. Under its insatiable appetite, life is really worthless, like a wisp of smoke blown away by the wind, which can never be found again. The purpose and ultimate goal of anti-war is to stop this terrible killing and let life regain respect.
Scene 3: Joe, the war horse who lost his master, runs aimlessly on the battlefield. He wanted to go back to his home in the English countryside and to his master, but there were shells, traps, tanks and barbed wire everywhere. He lost his way and was exhausted, and finally tripped over layers of barbed wire. I think, when everyone saw the sharp barbed wire tearing Joey's body, deeply embedded in his flesh, and pulling it down, they couldn't help but feel sad, as if the barbed wire was hooked in their own flesh, and they couldn't help shouting "No!" War is not only harmful to people, but also to all life, including the war horse Joey and his companions.
Scene 4: In order to save Joey who was entangled in barbed wire, a wonderful scene appeared. Regardless of obstruction, a British soldier risked his life to rescue Joey in the open space. Over there, on the opposite side, German soldiers also want to bring this horse back to their side. Originally, you were sworn rivals, but you became partners because you saved a dying horse. When people go in and out, they shout when they need pliers, and throw five or six at the same time. The rescue was successful, and for the ownership of the horse, he politely tossed a coin to decide whether to win or lose. The losers didn't become angry from embarrassment, turned against each other and denied others. They just left each other's names, cherished each other and said goodbye. Maybe after returning to the trenches, when the next battle starts, they will pick up their rifles again and shoot at each other desperately in exchange for a chance to survive. But at this moment, they are not enemies, as if they were farmers and hunters who cherish and take care of their horses. I saw some comments questioning the authenticity of this scene, that is, I don't understand history and human nature. During World War I, the opposing sides were just ordinary soldiers, loyal only to their own country, unlike the fanatical SS incited by Nazi genocide in World War II. We are all ordinary people, living in cold and humid trenches. Hunger, typhoid fever, malaria, rats and trenches are their common enemies. It is indeed recorded that when the two sides are deadlocked in positional warfare, exhausted and unable to fight again, it is normal for soldiers of both sides to greet each other and even walk around each other during a short break and when the weather is fine. There is a saying that "only soldiers cherish life the most, and only soldiers love peace the most."
Like most boys, my favorite game when I was a child was fighting. My favorite character was a soldier, and my favorite character was a war hero in the movie. However, when I grew up and experienced the baptism of years, my cognition changed. I don't want a war around me, and I don't really want to pick up a gun and go to the battlefield to kill the enemy. I just want a quiet life, a happy family, and long for social fairness, justice and justice. If someone wants to wage war for the selfish interests of a few people, I will stand up and say "no!" "
War Horse Film Review (2)
War Horse is a typical film with Spielberg label, and its soundtrack, photography, picture and theme are mostly the same as those of the fourth uncle. From E.T. artificial intelligence to war horse and Tintin, the words "exciting" and "moving" are indispensable in Uncle Four's movies. War Horse tells the story of anti-war doctrine from the perspective of a horse, which is mixed with inspirational, humorous and emotional elements that can most impress ordinary people. People who are often easily brought into the film may shed tears, while people who are often paranoid about being calm may think that this is just another cold meal for Uncle Four.
The perspective of the story is unique. Joey, the unruly war horse, occupies the position of absolute protagonist. This seems to be different from Spielberg's past starring children, aliens and robots. Actually, it's the same, just trying to discuss some problems from an almost unusual angle. Joey coincided with World War I, but the level of science and technology was not developed at the beginning of the 20th century. Horses played an irreplaceable role in the war. In the film, they are cavalry, hauling the wounded, pulling cannons for the Germans, and so on. It can be said that a good pony is a secret weapon for a person to survive from the war. Through the objective facts and conditions of the war, the story connects the horse with the war, reflects the war from the horse's point of view and conveys the theme of anti-war.
The narrative of War Horse is close to epic narrative. The "war" of a horse has created many emotional bombs, and the feelings between people and horses are hard to give up. In the film, the people who own Joey at every stage are horse lovers, Devon boys, cavalry, little girls, German soldiers and so on. People's feelings for horses, and horses' efforts to escape from war and pursue love and freedom. The connection between the two shows the anti-war sentiment in the world during World War I. People who own Joey are full of hope for life and extremely hate war, while those who kill Joey are often war makers, which destroys the beauty of mankind. Escape from the German army, pull the cannon, and the horse Joe soared in the war between the two sides, fled the war, pursued freedom, struggled in the barbed wire, and tried to get rid of the shackles, but it was still getting tighter and tighter. It's like human beings who tried to get rid of the war during the war were tied up and finally died. Joey was finally rescued in the confrontation between Britain and Germany. In the next hour, you and I were still fighting each other's mortal enemies on the battlefield, but when we rescued a horse, we worked together like brothers and even left each other's names and became friends. In this way, under the general pattern of the whole war, what is the significance of the desperate struggle between the two sides? These two tit-for-tat people on the battlefield have no hatred in the past recently, but they have been instructed by this big hand of war to destroy all their friendship. The director didn't show whether the Axis powers were in power or the Allies were more rational, but gave up the evaluation of self-orientation, and focused on the inhumanity of the war to explore its value and significance, instead of showing the cruelty of the war positively. It is to reflect on the feelings and attitudes of ordinary people and ordinary soldiers towards war, and to expose all kinds of inhuman behaviors with a horse, which is very touching.
War Horse Film Review (3)
I've also seen some movies about animals, and War Horse feels good.
The overall picture of the film is full of sense, and some shots are beautiful and I like them. The director's original intention is not to show the cruelty of war, and there are many humorous elements in the film. Pecking the white goose, Albert, the protagonist, rode with the landlord's son-in-law who was driving a car, and fell off the horse in a funny way. Emily taught Joe, the war horse, to jump over obstacles in a funny way. On the eve of the suffocating war between the enemy and ourselves, the soldiers rescued Joey from the trapped position and threw more than a dozen wire cutters from the German position. Funny pictures dilute the tense atmosphere of the war, make the audience laugh constantly, and add a sense of relaxation.
One of the highlights of the play is the interaction between man and horse. Albert and his compatriots went to the same battlefield when they were young. While taking the enemy fort, his fellow countryman was poisoned by poison gas, which indirectly implied the death of another war horse, Songtuo, who was a friend in need. Sure enough, the plots complement each other.
Another highlight of the play is the confrontation between the German army and the British army. When the war broke out, the two sides were at daggers drawn to save Joey who was trapped underground, and cooperated with each other to decide the ownership of the war horse by flipping a coin in good faith. People can't help but sigh. What is the war for? Peace. And this war horse did it, which made people angry. I remember watching a movie about the Sino-Vietnamese War, unofficial history, saying that in the late 1980s, the forces of the two sides only formed confrontation and rarely fought again. Because of the long confrontation, the soldiers of both sides are familiar with each other. Sometimes you stew meat here, I make jiaozi here, and everyone will exchange food and enjoy it. But eating is brothers, fighting is enemies, and if you really fire, you will treat each other mercilessly. () In this film, the plot of two armies rescuing horses is similar to that of unofficial history above. Although the real plot can't be verified, I believe it is true. This is also a reflection of this film. What did the war bring us?
The beauty of regret in the play is that Albert and Emily have no intersection, which has nothing to do with love. When Emily's grandfather appeared at the racetrack and bought Joey, perhaps the best and most romantic ending of the story should be that Albert and Emily rode Joey home in triumph. However, in the romantic afterglow of the sunset, there was a scene of one person and one horse, which inevitably made people lose one thing or two. It is not perfect without defects, and different people have different opinions. This is also the genius of screenwriters and directors.
Joey returned to Albert after six or seven cycles, which was one of the happy endings. But it is precisely because of the complexity of circulation that it is difficult to describe the characters in the circulation process in detail. Only through the lines of horses, it is inevitable that the content will be loose and the details will not be fine enough.
I don't think this movie should be defined as a war movie. First of all, there are few war scenes, but with the help of a war background during World War I, it tells the story of a horse reborn from the sea of fire and finally meeting its young master through hardships. The legendary so-called war film is the best feature film, and the feature film is the great war film.
At the same time, I also have some objections to transliterated film titles, including English film titles. The so-called "war horse" will naturally remind people of how this horse should gallop with its owner, fight bloody battles and kill the enemy heroically. The film is more about affirming and giving horses the spirit of how to overcome difficulties and obstacles. War is only a background for it to achieve nirvana. Therefore, it is more reasonable to understand "war" as how to overcome difficulties in the context of war, instead of misleading people's direct significance to Touma, or even to understand it from a certain level, which has nothing to do with war.
