The school insists on teaching as the center and scientific research (creation) as the guide. Teaching and scientific research (creation) work promote each other and have made great achievements. In the past five years, the school has won seven outstanding teaching achievement awards in Shandong higher education, including two first prizes and four 1 second prizes. Selected into 6 provincial-level quality courses; Scientific research achievements won the first prize of outstanding achievements of the National Social Science Fund Project, the "Five One Projects" Award of Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, the second prize of outstanding achievements of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and more than 100 achievements won the Outstanding Achievements Award of Shandong Social Sciences and the Outstanding Achievements Award of Universities of the Provincial Education Department. Design (creation) works won 4 silver awards and 8 bronze awards in the 9th and 10th National Art Exhibition.

The school adheres to the road of combining Industry-University-Research, teaching and scientific research (creation) serving economic and cultural construction, and has achieved remarkable economic and social benefits. Since 2002, the school has undertaken the overall design of Shandong Education Achievement Exhibition, Shandong Pavilion of China International Education Science and Technology Expo, Shandong Education Achievement Exhibition during the Tenth Five-Year Plan, and Shandong (International) Cultural Industry Expo in 2006, including the emblem, digital image ambassador and Confucius statue (model). Undertake the design of the emblem of the 11th National Games; It has hosted the 2003 Forum of Contemporary Book Design Experts, the 2004 Shandong Youth Art Exhibition-"Safe Shandong" Poster Design Competition, the 2005 National Visual Communication Design Education Forum and the first "Design Star" National College Students Excellent Graphic Design Exhibition, the 2006 China (Jinan) Contemporary International Photography Biennale and the first World College Students Photography Art Exhibition, and the 2007 Qilu International Photography Week and Ink Art Exhibition. Undertaking "2002 China Contemporary Mural Art Seminar", "2006 Shandong (International) Cultural Industry Expo" series of exhibitions and academic forum activities; To undertake the standard formulation and training project of "National Professional Qualification-Advertising Designer" of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security; China Folk Art Research Institute and Shandong Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center participated in the national "China Folk Cultural Heritage Rescue Project"; Teachers have held many exhibitions at home and abroad, among which three professors' solo exhibitions were held in China Art Museum.

The school implements the strategy of opening to the outside world and actively carries out educational cooperation and academic and cultural exchanges at home and abroad. The school has established inter-school relations with 24 schools including Korea, Japan, Britain, the United States, Sweden, Finland, Austria, France, Russia and Australia, and signed substantive cooperation agreements. For example, the school and the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology jointly built an art and science research center, a design management research center with the University of Staffordshire in the United Kingdom, and a digital research center for intangible cultural heritage with three universities including the University of Oregon in the United States. In 2005, the school joined the International Union of Design and Art Colleges, further expanding the international exchange and cooperation platform. At the same time, the school attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with domestic universities and cultural institutions, and jointly trains graduate students with Nanjing Art College, Southeast University and Shandong University. Since 2004, we have established undergraduate visiting relationships with Shandong University and Shandong Institute of Economics. Shandong TV Station, Shandong Fine Arts Publishing House, Shandong Theatre and other cultural units are not only the off-campus practice bases of the school, but also the project cooperation units.

The school recruits students from 22 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government). By the end of July 2007, there were 6 122 full-time students in general education.
