Why did Feilaifeng get its name?
Legend of Feilaifeng:
1: It is said that there was once a small flying peak on Mount Emei in Sichuan. It flies east for a while and west for a while; Wherever it flies, it will destroy many houses and kill many people.
At that time, there was a monk in Lingyin Temple in West Lake. Because he is crazy all day and doesn't follow the rules of Buddhism, people call him a crazy monk. One day, the crazy monk learned that at noon in Guang Chen, the strange flying mountain would fly to the village in front of Lingyin Temple. He was worried that the collapse of the mountain would kill many people, so Wu Geng got up and ran into the village, saying from door to door, "There is a mountain flying to this village at noon today. Let's act quickly, or it will be too late! "
The old man shook his head: "Crazy monk, you are having fun again. The mountain is the heaviest thing. Who has seen Feishan! " "
Hearing this, the family all sighed: "Where have we poor tenants moved?" ! If a mountain really falls, it will be strange if it is crushed! "
The young man snorted: "Don't make up lies to scare people! When the mountain falls, we will shoulder it. We are not afraid! "
The little girls followed him, smiling, gesticulating and watching.
The mad monk family went in and out of the house, and hundreds of families in the village were in charge. He said his lips were broken and his saliva was dry, but no one believed him, let alone the family was going to move.
The sun is rising higher and higher, and noon is coming. The mad monk was in a rash. At this time, he suddenly heard the sound of "hard hit, hard hit" from the suona, and quickly ran along the sound. At first glance, yes, it turned out that a family got married, people came in and out, and it was very lively. The mad monk scratched his scalp and thought about it. He pushed the crowd away, got into the front of the hall, shouldered the bride willy-nilly, and rushed out of the gate to run to the village.
Before the red shawl on the bride's head was taken off, she suddenly flew away with her back in a daze. I don't know what happened, but she was scared and screamed. Crazy monks rob the bride, not bad! People grabbed the latch, grabbed the pole, swung the pole, swung the hoe, and held the rake to catch up. While chasing, while shouting:
"Catch the mad monk!"
"Stop in front, don't let him get away!"
This time, everything was messed up. Relatives or friends, men, women and children, the whole village chased them out. Only a rich man in the east of the village didn't move, but stood in front of the door and watched, saying somewhat ironic:
"It's so fresh for a monk to grab a new wife, hehe!"
The mad monk continued to run with his bride on his back. How fast he runs! Everyone has been chasing for more than ten miles, but they have not caught up with him. When the sun was shining, the crazy monk stopped running. He put the bride down from her back, sat on the ground by himself, and shook the wind to cool down. People rushed to him and were about to catch him, only to find that it was dark for an instant, and the wind was blowing hard. Suddenly, with a bang, people were knocked down. When they got up, they saw that the wind had stopped and the sun had just shone overhead, but they saw a mountain peak just falling on their village. Only then did people understand that the crazy monk robbed the bride to save everyone's life.
The village was crushed at the foot of the mountain and everyone was homeless. Some people are so anxious that they are in tears. The crazy monk said, "Why are you crying? You don't know that the rich man in the village was crushed to death at the foot of the mountain. You are afraid that you can't afford to build a house in the future! "
People cheered and were about to disperse when the mad monk spoke again: "Don't go, don't go. Listen to me, since this mountain can fly from other places, it will fly away from here." Flying to other places will kill many people. what do you think? "
As soon as everyone heard this, they all agreed and started working at once. Hammer hammer, chisel chisel, "Ding Ding dang dang" busy all night, all 500 stone arhats have been chiseled, and there are stone niches and Buddha statues all over the mountains. Only the body of Lohan was chiseled out, but it was too late to chisel out eyebrows and eyes. The mad monk said, "I have an idea. Let me do it! " "He doesn't have to use a hammer or chisel, but only uses his long nails to scrape the face of the stone arhat. After half a day's work, I put all five hundred arhats on my eyebrows.
Since then, this small mountain peak can no longer fly to other places and stay in front of Lingyin Temple forever! Because it flew from other places, it was called "Feilaifeng".
2. Feilai Peak, also known as Ling Jiu Feng, is168m high. According to legend, in the early years of Xianhe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, an Indian monk Hui swam here and saw this rugged stone mountain. He thought it was very similar to the Indian spirit Jiu Feng, and said, "This is a small ridge where the vultures in Zhu Guo came from. Don't know why? " Since then, he built a temple here, named Lingyin, and called the stone mountain in front of the temple Feilai Peak.
There is a cold spring pavilion outside the Tianwang Hall of Lingyin Temple. It is said that when Su Dongpo was a satrap in Hangzhou, he often ate and wrote poems in Lengquange. Feilaifeng is a rare artistic treasure of ancient grottoes in the south of the Yangtze River, comparable to Dazu stone carvings in Sichuan. Su Dongpo once wrote the poem "Xi Mountain is everywhere, and I love Lingyin Feilaifeng best".
Features of Feilaifeng:
Feilaifeng belongs to limestone in geological structure, which is very different from the surrounding mountains. No stone is strange, no tree is ancient, no hole is secluded. There are grotesque rocks, lush old trees and caves everywhere. It is said that there are 72 caves, most of which have been lost.
There is a statue of Guanyin in the existing Longhong Cave. On the left side of the cave is the snake beard cave, through which a ray of skylight can be seen. This is the famous skylight ray. You can hear the gurgling water in six caves. There is also an ape cave on the west side of the mountain. According to legend, the monk Uighur called the black and white ape. Cold spring ape whistling was once one of the ten scenic spots in Qiantang.
At the west foot of Feilai Peak, there is a cold spring hidden deep in the shade, and the spring water is crystal clear as jade. On the surface of the clear pool water, there is a big bowl of underground spring water. No matter the ebb and flow of the stream, it gushes, flying pearls and splashing jade, as if playing with nature. Ming Dynasty painter Shen said: "The scenery on the lake is hidden, and the cold spring is alone." There is a cold spring pavilion in Chi Pan.
Gongling Pagoda, the Lingjiu Pagoda at the entrance of Longhong Cave in Feilai Peak, is the only existing Ming Dynasty pagoda in Hangzhou. It is made of stone, with six sides and six floors, which is extremely rare. The whole tower is divided layer by layer from bottom to top, and its structure is unpretentious and unique.
Located on the mountainside of Feilai Peak in Lingyin, Cuiwei Pavilion is small and exquisite, with winding mountain paths beside it, hidden among pines and ancient trees, which is simple and dignified. This pavilion was built by Han Shizhong, a famous anti-gold star in the Southern Song Dynasty, in memory of Yue Fei. There is a couplet on the pavilion: "The road turns to the peak and goes back to Tibet. People in the pavilion look forward to the sages." Today's Cuiwei Pavilion was rebuilt on the original site by 1924.
There are more than 470 stone carvings from the Five Dynasties to the Song and Yuan Dynasties (335 of which are well preserved) in the caves of Feilaifeng and on the cliffs near the streams. The earliest three Buddha statues, Amitabha, Guanyin and Dazhi, were made in 95 1 year. These exquisite cliff carvings are precious historical heritage.
There were more than 200 statues in the Song Dynasty, most of which were of the above types. The reliefs of Rushena Buddhist Society are the most exquisite works among the statues of Song people. The statue of Maitreya with a big belly in the Southern Song Dynasty is the largest statue of Feilaifeng and the earliest Maitreya with a big belly in China. It is open-minded, with its mouth wide open, and always wide open, "allowing all intolerable things in the world;" Laughing at the image of all the ridiculous people in the world makes tourists rush to take pictures as souvenirs.
There are more than 100 statues of Lamaism in Feilaifeng in the Yuan Dynasty, which are exquisitely carved, exquisitely shaped and beautifully preserved. The statues of Pilu Jinna, Manjusri and Pu Xian on the outer wall of Qinglin Cave are the earliest stone carvings of the Yuan Dynasty in Hangzhou West Lake. There is a high relief of the Song Dynasty on the left side of Huyan Cave.
1993, Feilaifeng Scenic Area has opened up another scenic spot named China Grottoes Art Collection Garden. Jicui Garden is surrounded by mountains and forests, and has created grotto statues such as Dazu Stone Carving in Sichuan, Leshan Giant Buddha, Anyue Sleeping Buddha, Maijishan Grottoes in Gansu, Yungang Grottoes in Shanxi and Longmen Grottoes in Henan. The 250-meter-long Jicui Garden has shaped nearly 10,000 Buddha statues representing different places and different times. The statue of Feilai Peak in Yuan Dynasty is particularly precious, which makes up for the vacancy of grottoes art in China from the Five Dynasties to the Yuan Dynasty. 1982, the State Council announced the Feilaifeng statue as a national key cultural relics protection unit.

Feilai Peak in front of Lingyin Temple, also known as Ling Jiu Feng, is168m high, and the mountain is made of limestone. Due to the long-term erosion of groundwater, Feilaifeng has formed many strange caves, such as Longhong Cave, Yuru Cave, Snake beard Cave and Tiger Eye Cave. These caves have their origins and are very legendary. The grotesque rocks in Feilaifeng Temple, such as dragons, running elephants, crouching tigers and frightened apes, seem to be a stone zoo. Gu Teng, an ancient tree on the mountain, is intertwined; Rock bones are exposed with sharp peaks and edges. Yuan Dao, an Amin, once said, "The peak on the lake should be the first." According to predecessors' records, there used to be 72 caves in Feilai Peak, but most of them have disappeared due to the age. Most of the remaining caves are concentrated in the southeast of Feilai Peak.
There are more than 340 statues of Five Dynasties Buddhist grottoes on the slope of Feilai Peak facing Lingyin Temple, which is a rare ancient grottoes art treasure in southern China, comparable to Dazu stone carvings in Sichuan. Su Dongpo once wrote the poem "Xi Mountain is everywhere, and I love Lingyin Feilaifeng best". Stone carvings include the Three Saints of the West (Five Dynasties), the relief of the Rushena Buddhist Society (Northern Song Dynasty), the monk in a bag (Southern Song Dynasty), the King Kong Hand Bodhisattva, the King of Listening, and Guanyin (all in the Yuan Dynasty), all of which are rare art treasures. What is particularly striking is the smiling Maitreya Buddha, whose chest is bare and abdomen is exposed. This is the largest statue in Feilaifeng Grottoes and a masterpiece of sculpture art in the Song Dynasty. At the eastern foot of Feilaifeng, there is Xiatianzhu Temple (Fajing Temple), an ancient temple in the Sui Dynasty, which runs southwest along the stream, and then there is Zhongtianzhu Temple (Fajing Temple), which was built two years later than Xiatianzhu Temple, and Shangtianzhu Temple (Faxi Temple), which was built in the Five Dynasties, which are collectively called "Three Tianzhu".
There are many legends about the origin of the name Feilaifeng. According to legend, Huili, an Indian monk, came to Hangzhou more than 0/600 years ago. When he saw this peak, he was frightened and said, "This is jiusan Ridge, the spirit of Tianzhu. Why did you fly here? " Therefore, it is called Feilaifeng. It is also said that one day the Jigong monk of Lingyin Temple had a whim and knew that there was a mountain peak in the distance. At that time, there was a village in front of Lingyin Temple. Jigong was afraid that the flying peaks would crush people, so he rushed into the village to persuade everyone to leave quickly. Because people in the village are used to seeing Jigong playing tricks on people, and think that this time is for everyone to have fun, no one listens to him. Seeing that the mountain peak was about to fly, Jigong was in a hurry and rushed into a bride's house, picked up the bride who was meeting the bride and ran away. When the villagers saw the monk robbing the bride, they all shouted and chased him out. People were chasing, when suddenly they heard the wind whistling, the sky was dark and there was a "rumbling" sound. A mountain peak flew down in front of Lingyin Temple and overwhelmed the whole village. At this time, people realized that Jigong robbed the bride to save everyone, so they called this mountain "Feilaifeng".
When you visit Feilai Peak, you will see that this mountain has no rocks, no trees, no caves and no secluded places. It is absolutely beautiful. Its landscape is quite different from the surrounding peaks. Wandering in the remote and profound Buddhist atmosphere of Lingyin, Feilaifeng and Santianzhu, you can fully appreciate the charm of Buddhist art and truly feel the heavy historical and cultural charm hidden between the mountains and rivers of the West Lake.
