When is Weifang Kite Festival?

Weifang Kite Festival (Expo) is held in Weifang on the third Saturday of April every year, with more than 30 countries and regions from all over the world participating. It is the earliest large-scale local festival named "International" in China and recognized by the international community. Since 1984, it has been successfully held for 38 sessions, and its mode of "kite matching, style setting and economic and trade singing" has been widely used for reference by all parts of the country.

Weifang is the birthplace of kites. As early as the 1930s, Weifang held the Kite Festival. After liberation, especially since the reform and opening up, Weifang kites have been revived and invited to participate in kite exhibitions and flying performances at home and abroad for many times. On April 1984 and 1 day, with the enthusiastic help of American friend David Cheklee and the strong support of Shandong Provincial Tourism Bureau and Weifang Gongmei, the first Weifang International Kite Fair kicked off. 1 988 April1day, the 5th Weifang International Kite Club held a presidium meeting. At the meeting, the delegates unanimously approved Weifang as the "Kite Capital of the World". During the 6th Weifang International Kite Fair (1989), kite organizations from the United States, Japan, Britain, Italy and other 16 countries and regions participated in the establishment of the International Kite Federation, and decided to set its headquarters in Weifang. Starting from 20 12, the opening day of Weifang International Kite Fair is Saturday in the third week of April every year.
