Is the pixel of a digital camera as high as possible?

First, what is a pixel?

Pixel is the basic unit of photosensitive element to record optical signal and the smallest unit of photo file. In the film age, film is the photosensitive element CCD or CMOS of digital camera. N pixels can be understood as dividing the whole photosensitive element into n parts, which are filled with n photoelectric conversion units.

Everyone should remember that the pixel level will not affect the clarity of the photo, it just records the ambient light felt at the moment of imaging and converts it into an electrical signal. For the same photosensitive element (the difference of photosensitive element size is very important), in an ideal state, the image clarity obtained by one pixel and n pixels is the same. Simply put, the pixel level will not affect the clarity of the image, that is, the higher the pixel, the clearer the mistake of the photo.

Sometimes we often see such a combination of numbers: 640 × 480, 1024 × 768, 1600 × 1200, 2048× 1536, ... The number in front of these combinations indicates the number of pixels included in the length direction, and the number behind them. For example:1600×1200 =1920000 ≈ 200000, representing 2 million pixels.

Second, what does the pixel size affect and what is the use of the pixel height?

The higher the pixel, the finer the photo and the higher the resolution. Let's put it this way: If you enlarge a 5-megapixel photo to 200%, it will become a mosaic. If you enlarge a 20-megapixel photo by 200%, it will still be clear. In addition, if your pixels are not high, cropping photos later will have a great impact on the image quality. In fact, the picture is enlarged and there are not enough pixels, which affects the picture quality.

Therefore, after understanding the meaning of pixels, we know that the larger the pixels, the larger the drawing file will be, and the clearer and more delicate the printed or displayed effect will be.

For example, a photo is like a handful of sand. The pixel height represents a lot of sand, but the image quality depends on how many impurities there are in the sand.

Third, how many pixels are enough?

Most photos taken by people are sent to friends circle, online, photo community, business website and so on. Generally, like friends circle and some social software, the picture size will not exceed 1440. Even if it is sent to some commercial websites, the photos will be displayed below 2000. A calculation shows that 3 million pixels is basically enough. If your pixels are too high, it will take a long time to load.

If you want to print photos, the requirements are high. Generally speaking, we only need 2.23 million pixels (1830× 1220) to print photos every day, while the minimum pixel output of our daily color magazines is 8.35 million (about 2480×3366).

Like commercial photography, the requirements are higher, because the output is required to be large, so the requirements for pixels are higher. Generally speaking, 30 million pixels just meet the demand, and high pixels are never too much.

It doesn't make much sense for ordinary photographers to blindly pursue high pixels. Now there are enough pixels in the camera. To make a living by photography, you must pursue pixels. High pixels make a difference.
