Shanghai Library Service Guide
Eligible applicants: Chinese citizens and foreigners with adult reader's card who are over 14 years old. Children's Reader's Card, minors under 14 years old.
Application method: Applicants must present their valid documents. Valid documents include: second-generation ID card, Hong Kong and Macao pass (or return permit), Taiwan compatriot ID card, military ID card, and passport (for foreigners). Those who are under 14 years old and do not have an ID card can hold a household registration booklet with an ID card number printed on it.

The loan can be made only after approval.
3. To search ancient books and documents, you can use card catalogs, electronic catalogs or book catalogs, and search by title, author, classification and other methods. To borrow ancient books, please fill out the "Historical Document Reading List", up to four types at a time.
4. The books in this room are for indoor reading only. If readers want to copy ancient books, including digital resources, they must fill in the "Entrusted Copying Form" in detail and pay the copying fee according to regulations.
5. Ancient books that cannot be read on the same day can be retained by the staff. The retention period is generally not more than 3 days.
6. When reading ancient books, please put them on a special shelf and do not press your arms or body on the ancient books; when copying information, please use a pencil, not a water pen or ballpoint pen.
7. In order to protect historical documents, any unrestored ancient books that are damaged, severely damaged, or disconnected will not be available for reading for the time being.
8. Rare books will not be available for reading on rainy days or during the rainy season. When reading rare books, please sit at the designated seats, wear gloves, and do not touch them directly with your hands.
9. Due to the limited number of database ports in our room, readers are asked to consciously control the database usage time. If there are no seats available, please wait patiently or apply for a reservation to the staff. We will reserve a seat for you during the reservation period. .
10. Please take good care of documents and all public property. Please do not annotate, alter, fold, deface, cut or tear pages on documents. Please do not take documents out of the reading room. , Violators will be dealt with according to relevant regulations of Shanghai Library.
11. Please use the power supply in the designated area. Do not connect the power supply or charge without authorization. Pay attention to the safety of electricity.
12. Please store books and periodicals (including self-brought books and periodicals), bags (larger than 14*20 cm), food and other items that are not in the reading area in the baggage deposit area.
13. Please keep the museum quiet and put mobile communication devices on silent mode. Do not eat or drink in the reading area, and drink water and beverages in designated places.

Since the establishment of the new library, Shanghai Library has actively carried out extensive book exchange business with libraries around the world and established collaborative relationships in book exchange business.
