Weng Tonghe, 1830, from Changshu, Jiangsu. His name is Song Chan, also known as Zhai Jun, Life, Pinglu lay man and Mei Mei lay man. He was also called a peaceful layman the next day. In Xianfeng period, the champion became the teacher of Emperor Guangxu because of his profound knowledge. During the Reform Movement of 1898, he actively introduced Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao to Emperor Guangxu, and even called him "the first mentor of China's reform".

But after the Reform Movement of 1898, why didn't Cixi kill Weng Tonghe?

When Cixi killed the reformists, some ministers wrote to Cixi to punish Weng Tonghe, but most ministers in the DPRK opposed it. Weng Tonghe entered the DPRK as an official from the Xianfeng period, and experienced Tongzhi, Guangxu, Tongzhi in Three Dynasties and Guangxu as a teacher. Naturally, she has a certain influence in North Korea. Cixi was worried that killing Weng Tonghe was not conducive to the stability of the court, and at this time she had already killed the 1898 Movement.

Cixi was dismissed for the people and repatriated to her hometown. On the first and fifteenth day of each month, he reports his whereabouts to the local county government, which is equivalent to being actually monitored. Weng Tonghe's influence can be seen from the magistrate in his hometown. After Weng Tonghe returned to his hometown, he was required to report to the county government every month, which made the magistrate fidgety, a veteran of the three dynasties and a teacher of the two emperors. How can he stand it?

So whenever Weng Tonghe reported to the county government that day, the magistrate of a county hung a "business trip" sign at the door. Weng Tonghe saw the sign and went home too many times. In order to avoid a trip in vain, Weng Tonghe asked his servant to visit the county government. If he is still on a business trip, he won't have to go, and the result is of course a business trip.

Weng Tonghe also followed the rules in his hometown and often praised Cixi's kindness to tourists. Weng Tonghe is also grateful that Cixi did not commit suicide. When this word reached the ears of Cixi, Cixi would not want to kill him again.

But Weng Tonghe was still worried about what Cixi would do if she committed suicide on a whim that day. He dug a well in the back of the house, called washing well, ready to throw it into the well at any time. He still lives in his residence, which is called the bottle seclusion, which means that I will keep my mouth shut and live in seclusion here.

1On July 3rd, 904, Weng Tonghe died in his hometown. Before he died, he wrote to Emperor Guangxu, hoping that the country would become rich and strong. But what could Emperor Guangxu do under house arrest? After Weng Tonghe's death, in order to win people's hearts and restore his official position, the Qing government called posthumous title "Wen Gong".
