Can dogs swim?

Dogs can usually swim.

Whether dogs have the ability to swim can be roughly divided into three categories:

1. Natural swimmers, such as water hounds, golden retrievers, retriever, Irish Setters, English Setters, Newfoundland dogs, etc. Good at swimming.

You can learn to swim by training the day after tomorrow.

3. Native dogs who can't and don't want to learn ... dogs with low stature and steady footwork, such as bullfighting, dachshunds and boxers, are difficult to maintain buoyancy in the water because of their short legs; Dogs with short faces, such as worms, have poor physical strength and are prone to fatigue. Swimming is a dangerous sport for these dogs. Small dogs, such as Chihuahua and Maltese, are sometimes good at swimming, but they are afraid of cold and easily frightened, so they are also prone to drowning. In addition, although some dogs can swim, they are naturally afraid of water. When they swim, they are actually in a state of panic, so they are extremely prone to drowning because of exhaustion of physical strength. However, if people swim with dogs, these dogs will scratch and trample on the owner next to them in panic, so as to float to the surface and return to land.

4. Some dogs just hate touching water, whether they can swim or not (for example, some dogs hate getting wet, let alone swimming, pure land dogs). If your dog is not suitable for water but not afraid of it, you can put on a life jacket to prevent possible drowning; If your dog is the type that hates water, you can put a mat beside the pool and let them bask in the sun with you.

Special: It is not excluded that some dogs are naturally afraid of water or drown the day after tomorrow, and need careful training and exercise in swimming.
