Jiuquanzi recalled watching the tide.

Song Pan Lang

Long memories of watching the tide, full of people vying to see the river. I suspect that the sea is empty and drums are beating all around. Xiang Tao, the frolic in the frolic, stands upright and keeps the red flag wet. I don't see the dream a few times, but I am still chilling.

Pan Lang served as several junior officials in Emperor Taizong and Zhenzong. During the reign of Emperor Taizong, he was driven out of Bianjing because of his "arrogance" in words and deeds, and lived in Hangzhou. Hangzhou is on the banks of Qiantang River, and August 18th of the lunar calendar is the climax of the flood season. The imperial dynasty designated this day as "the birthday of the tide god" and held a tide-watching celebration. On this day, the royal family, dignitaries, people and residents, all kinds of people and so on. The whole city is out, the traffic is busy and colorful flags are flying, which is very popular. Hundreds of athletes, wearing tattoos, holding red flags, stepping on rollers, jumped into the river and marched against the tide. The tide will rise, and a white line will be seen in the distance, which will gradually advance. The sound is like thunder, and the closer it is, the greater the momentum, such as the passage of time, a piece of Wang Yang. The white waves are overwhelming, the mountains are singing, and the valleys are responding. Water and sky are the same, and the sea is vast. Children playing in Whale Wave Wan Ren were found. Their bodies were constantly changing, but their flags were not wet.

People watch the tide and now live in Haining, Zhejiang. But in the Northern Song Dynasty, the tide-watching resort was in Hangzhou. Tide watching in Haining was after the diversion of Qiantang River in Ming Dynasty. Pan Lang may have lived in Hangzhou for several years, but the grand occasion of the high tide undoubtedly left a deep impression on him, so that he often dreamed of the spectacular high tide later. This song "Jiuquanzi" was written by him to recall the grand occasion of tide watching. He wrote ten words with the inscription "Jiuquanzi". One or two of them recalled Qiantang, three or four recalled West Lake, and five to ten recalled Gushan, Xishan, Gao Feng, Wu Shan, Longshan and Guanchao respectively. Every first sentence is preceded by the word "Chang Yi", and the second half sentence is preceded by the word "Don't come". Of these ten songs, the tenth one is the best written and the most widely circulated in later generations. In particular, the phrase "Xiang Tao frolicking in the waves stands tall, and the red flag does not wet his hands" makes Qianjiang athletes dare to challenge, tease and despise the charm of the tide.
