How to set the lighting in fashion photography, and what skills are there?

There are many lighting schemes commonly used in fashion photography. According to the distribution of different light effects, there are some classical lighting methods, such as Rembrandt lighting, lateral stereo lighting, dish lighting, plane lighting, lighting that emphasizes the outline of the structure, etc. In addition, flexible use of lighting according to the temperament and fashion characteristics of models can create more colorful lighting schemes.

Rembrandt lighting Rembrandt lighting is a traditional and classic three-dimensional lighting method, named after the painting light used by the Dutch painter Rembrandt. Rembrandt lighting is unique in that the light comes from one side, illuminating 1/4' s whole face and 3/4' s part, and the dark shape formed by the main light appears on the half face close to the photographer. When lighting, the main light is placed on the left side of the camera. The shadow formed by the main light on the nose extends from the nose to the mouth, and a triangular illumination area is also formed on the cheek. Rembrandt-style lighting is often used to express the classic fashion image, with solemn, powerful, mysterious and classical personality. Because the purpose of this lighting method is to create a dramatic portrait, the shadow should be thicker and the auxiliary light can be weakened accordingly. In order to make the outline of the subject appear, you can also use cold light and contour light to outline and emphasize the image.

Side lighting can make use of the shape transition of characters to form a concave-convex light and shadow effect, and show the outline composition and light-dark contrast of characters. Canon has a strong three-dimensional sense and lively artistic charm, which is suitable for expressing the ups and downs of fashion and artistic characteristics. It is one of the classic lighting methods commonly used in fashion photography.

According to different angles, the most commonly used stereoscopic lights of fashion ancestors are 45 front light and 90 front light. 45 front light is widely used in fashion photography, which not only has a certain lighting area, but also makes the face have a concave-convex three-dimensional sense, and the tone levels and line outlines are more abundant. 90 positive light can form the effect of distinguishing light from dark, which can show a strong fashion contrast effect and has a unique and individual artistic charm. When using lateral stereo lighting, the model's face should face the light source as far as possible. Horizontal stereoscopic lighting is mostly used to create a picture effect of middle tones, and the picture should not be too bright or too dark. Attention should be paid to the control of light ratio and the embodiment of dark tone level when lighting.

Butterfly lighting Butterfly lighting is also called high lighting. The main light is located in a higher position and shines downward from the front of the subject. This lighting method is named because it can form a beautiful butterfly shadow under the nose of the subject. Butterfly lighting is suitable for emphasizing the facial features, face shape and cheek structure of the subject, which can hide the skin defects of the face and make the avatar more attractive. It is most suitable to show the close-up and makeup of women's front or 3/4 side.

Butterfly lighting, first put the main light directly in front of the subject, then move the light up, and stop moving the light when a butterfly shadow is formed between the nose and lips, which is usually the most suitable position for the main light. For people with thin faces, letting the butterfly shadow fall under the nose 1/4 can make the cheeks receive more light, and then produce a plump effect. For people with fat face and feet, if the dish-shaped shadow falls on the lower part of the nose, it can produce more shadows on both sides of the cheeks, thus making the face look thinner. In addition, the dish lighting should be combined with the bottom lighting or a reflector should be added to control the shadow of the dark part, which can enrich the picture level.

In plane lighting, many lamps and several reflectors are usually used. Lamps and lanterns should be as close as possible to the subject, make maximum use of scattered and reflected light, so that the lamps and lanterns can illuminate the subject evenly and evenly, and achieve a clean, bright and beautiful picture effect. According to the different light levels, there are three common forms of plane light distribution: V-shaped plane light distribution, left and right plane light distribution and upper and lower plane light distribution. In addition, the use of ring flash front flash shooting can also quickly create a bright and fashionable plane light effect.

Gao Fancha lighting is often used to emphasize the structural outline of the theme in lighting fashion photography which emphasizes the structural outline of the theme. In order to better emphasize the outline of the junction structure, the hard light with clear contrast and the method of minimizing the middle tone are used to shape the shot image. Paying attention to the relationship between the structural outline and the background of the characters can create a capable and mysterious character image, which is suitable for expressing rough and powerful fashion effects. When emphasizing the main structure, the side light often takes the form of light clamping, that is, the lights on both sides illuminate relatively, forming a strong effect of hard light quality and obvious structure; When emphasizing the outline of the subject, we often adopt the form of backlight and side backlight, and place a reflector in front of the theme to make the light fill the face, thus forming a clear and powerful character image.
