History of School of Journalism and Communication, Nanchang University

School of Journalism and Communication of Nanchang University was formerly the Department of Journalism of Jiangxi University. Established in June 1958. It is the third teaching point of journalism major in China's higher education after the founding of New China. It is the cradle of new China journalism talents, and it is as famous as the journalism departments of China Renmin University and Fudan University at that time.

1965- 1972, the journalism education of the journalism department of Jiangxi University was interrupted for 8 years due to the Cultural Revolution;

1973 Jiangxi university set up a news teaching and research section in the Chinese department, and began to offer training courses for news cadres and specialized courses in news photography to cultivate industry backbones for news media inside and outside the province;

1982, the journalism major of Jiangxi University resumed classes, and the first batch of undergraduate students were recruited after the resumption of classes.

1984 In September, the Department of Journalism of Jiangxi University cooperated with the China Photographers Association to recruit students for photography training nationwide after the Department of Journalism of Renmin University of China, becoming another training base for photojournalism talents in China.

In April, 1995, Mu Qing, former president of Xinhua News Agency and honorary professor of journalism, came to give a lecture. He said: "Judging from the team of Xinhua News Agency, there are many students who graduated from your journalism department. More than a dozen of them I am familiar with are now the backbone of Xinhua News Agency ... Nanchang University is a very important base for training journalists."

In June 2003, the school departments were adjusted, and the School of Journalism and Communication was changed into the Department of Journalism and Communication as a whole, and a new school of humanities was formed together with the Chinese Department, the History Department and the Philosophy Department.
