What are the characteristics of Ningshou Palace Garden in the existing Northern Lights Forbidden City?

The existing Ningshou Palace West Road complex in the Forbidden City, also known as Ningshou Palace Garden or Qianlong Garden, was built in 177 1 to 1776 and took six years to complete.

The garden is160m long from north to south and 37m wide from east to west, covering an area of 5,920m2. The architectural layout is exquisite and the combination is proper, which is a model of palace gardens.

The garden is divided into four courtyards, with compact and flexible structure, space conversion, alternating curves and straight roads and different atmosphere. The structure of the garden is mainly composed of three parts.

The first part is the Guhuating, named after an ancient catalpa tree here. Up to now, this tree is the fourth generation, and the old tree has come back from the dead and lasted for four generations. In order to appreciate this tree, Emperor Qianlong built an "ancient flower pavilion" in front of it, and wrote his own couplet: the moon and the breeze are nowhere to hide.

At that time, it was the heyday of Qianlong, and it was full of ambitions. Therefore, it gave the hospital names such as "Sui Chutang" and "Fu Wangge", which shows the great efforts of feudal emperors.

Come out of Sanheyuan, open a side door, cross a narrow aisle and enter the third part of Gan Long Garden. There are ancient buildings such as Songxiu Pavilion, Quyan Building, Cuishang Building and Fuwang Pavilion.

What attracts special attention is the small pavilion on the top of the fake mountain. The five pillars of the pavilion are plum blossom-shaped. The caisson at the top of the pavilion and the relief on the railing are plum blossom-shaped. The pavilion is topped with purple sauce and Kongquelan glazed tile. Although it has faded, it still looks quaint and elegant.

There is also a stone-green treasure top with plum blossoms painted on it. On the plaque at the main entrance of the pavilion, there is also the word "Robbie" inscribed by Gan Long Imperial Pen.

There are more than 20 buildings in Ganlongyuan, which are rich in types, matched in size and adapted to local conditions. The plane and elevation are treated asymmetrically, which is especially ingenious and novel in the strict forbidden palace system. Therefore, it can be said that this garden is a masterpiece of "palace garden" or "palace garden".

In the existing buildings of Ningshou Palace, besides the Chinese and western buildings, there are also east buildings, such as Yin Changting, Dressing Building, Reading Building and Qingshoutang Building. These buildings are isomorphic with the buildings in the east of the Forbidden City, and their completion brought a lot of fun to the old emperor Qianlong.

In the early years of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Qianlong abdicated and lived in Ningshou Palace as the emperor's father, where he continued to control state affairs for three years until his death. From then on, the Qing Dynasty officially ended the Qianlong period, and the "prosperous time of Kangxi and Qianlong" in the history of China finally came to a satisfactory end.
