How to capture the effect of fruit entering the water?

Here we will introduce some basic skills of shooting splashing water.

Set the scene

The kitchen is the best place to shoot a subject. Expensive photographic equipment and water will cause painful losses if you are not careful, so you must pay attention to the order when shooting to avoid tragedies. The flat glass container is the main prop for this shooting, as shown in the above picture. Cheap and high-quality colored cardboard is very suitable for background. Like all other indoor photo shooting, in order to ensure the firmness of background and lighting, tape paper is essential.

Set up equipment

A stable tripod and a lens with close enough focus are indispensable. The Nikon 60mm lens used in the above picture is ideal. Off-plane flash is the key point to catch splashing water. We put the flash behind the glass sink and use a soft lampshade to scatter light. Pay attention to avoid lens glare when shooting. On the other side of the sink, we used a piece of cardboard wrapped in aluminum foil as a simple reflector to fill the light, and the effect was perfect.

Take some pictures.

Switching all functions to manual mode and controlling the whole shooting process can ensure the best shooting effect. Focus is very important. First, use a reference object to help focus on the required focus. Use the shutter speed as high as possible, but remember not to exceed the flash synchronization speed, which is usually 1/250 seconds. The aperture can be set to about f/8 to ensure sufficient depth of field. First, set the flash to 1/4 power output, take some test charts, and then judge the shooting results according to the histogram, and adjust the output power as appropriate.

Official shooting

Want to capture the perfect splash effect must go through repeated attempts, so the space of the memory card must be large enough. Set the camera to continuous shooting mode, and take three or four photos at a time when you press the shutter to ensure a sufficient success rate. After several setbacks, we can feel the joy of success. But don't be too happy, first check whether the focus is correct on the LCD screen on the back of the machine.

As can be seen from the above three photos, the timing of taking such photos is very important. These three photos were all taken in just one second, but the difference before and after is very obvious. It takes a lot of waste films and patience to get perfect shooting results.

Advanced skills

Now that the scenery is set, why not shoot more content? For example, drop a few drops of different liquids into a container to capture the process of their diffusion in water. The precautions in shooting are basically the same as those in shooting splash. You can try more different liquids, such as pigment or milk. Because of their different viscosities, they will show different states in water.
