What is a flat tongue sound and how to distinguish it from a protruding tongue sound?
Warping: The retroflexion of the tip of the tongue refers to zh, ch, sh and R produced when the tip of the tongue is tilted, touches or approaches the anterior hard palate.
The specific distinction method is:
First, it is distinguished by the phonological relationship of Putonghua. The regularity of phonological coordination in Putonghua is as follows:
(1) words with ua uai uang as vowel and zh ch sh as initial consonant, such as "grasping, beating, dragging, Zhuang, Chuang, Shuang";
(2) For words with en as the vowel, except for words such as "How, Shen (poor), Cen, Sen", words with eng as the vowel, except for "Zeng" and a few numbers with "Zeng" as the sound side, the initials of other words are all behind the tip of the tongue.
(3) For words with ou as the vowel, except for a few numbers such as "together", all the other initials are CH;
(4) Among the words with un as vowel, only the initials of "Shun, _, Suction, Shun and Instant" are sh, and the initials of other words are S;
(The word "_" is often pronounced as "Dun", the fourth tone. )
(5) In words with ong as the vowel, the initial is only S, and there is no sh.
Secondly, according to the phonetic function of pictophonetic words, the pronunciation of a group of words next to homophones is inferred by using the known phonetic words.
Extended data
The method of pronunciation.
When zh is emitted, the tip of the tongue tilts upward against the front of the hard palate, and the soft palate rises. Because the channel is completely closed, air flow accumulates. Then the tip of the tongue is slightly away from the hard palate, forming a narrow gap, from which air flows out and rubs into sound. The vocal cords don't vibrate. The blocking position and pronunciation of ch are the same as that of zh, but the airflow rushed out when ch pronounces is much stronger than that when zh pronounces. Zh is a fricative sound without aspirated after the tip of the tongue, and ch is a fricative sound with aspirated after the tip of the tongue.
When making sh, the tip of the tongue tilts upward, close to the front of the hard palate, and there is a narrow gap between the tip of the tongue and the hard palate, and the soft palate rises, and air flows out of the narrow gap between the tip of the tongue and the hard palate and rubs into sound. The vocal cords don't vibrate. The blocking position and pronunciation of R are the same as sh, except that the vocal cords vibrate when R is pronounced. Sh is a clear fricative sound behind the tip of the tongue, and R is a voiced fricative sound behind the tip of the tongue.
Because the tip of the tongue is upturned when pronouncing, it seems to roll back, so the rolling tongue sounds zh, ch, sh and R are usually called rolling tongue sounds.
