What are the main courses of Chinese Department?

Hello, I am a student of the College of Literature of Communication University of China.

The full name of Chinese Department is China Language and Literature Department. As the name implies, it is language+literature.

Courses are divided into compulsory Chinese courses and elective Chinese courses.

Compulsory course is a compulsory course for students in China. You must complete all credits before you can graduate and get a degree certificate. Elective courses are many specialized courses offered by the college. You can choose the elective courses you are interested in and earn enough credits.

Compulsory courses mainly include the following contents-

Language category: modern Chinese, ancient Chinese, introduction to linguistics, basic writing.

Literature: the history of modern literature in China, the history of ancient Chinese literature, the history of contemporary literature in China, the history of world literature, an introduction to literature, literary theory, the history of literary theory criticism in China, the history of foreign literary theory criticism, and comparative literature.

There are many elective courses, and there is a lot of room for independent choice. Different schools offer different courses. For example—

Language categories: Chinese dialectology, modern Chinese grammar, Chinese lexicology, phonetics, phonology, exegetics, Chinese philology, collation, etc.

Literature: urban literature, folk literature, aesthetic research, the Analects of Confucius, Zhuangzi, Mencius, Chu Ci, A Dream of Red Mansions, Lu Xun, ancient literary theory, I Ching, essays of various schools of thought, psychoanalysis and literature reading.

If it is linguistics, it is an introduction to modern Chinese, ancient Chinese and linguistics.
