Miguel Vargas ... This film is set in the 1920s. In the eyes of director Pablo Berger, "Matador is the king of that era". In the film, the protagonist in the fairy tale Snow White is replaced by a matador's daughter, and eventually becomes a matador, wandering with a group of circus members composed of dwarfs and disabled people in the countryside of southern Spain. Director Pablo Berger watched todd Browning's Deformed Man when he was 0/6 years old, and this picture began to haunt him. The actors in the film are all trained by professional matadors. There are very few female matadors in Spain now, but before the 1930s, female matadors existed. However, they have always been discriminated against by people. Many professional bullfighters believe that women are not qualified to participate in the "national performance" of bullfighting. Female matadors were banned after the 1930s, but they began to recover in the last decade. Snow White was intended to be made into a black-and-white film from the beginning. During the production process, Berg got a record of The Artist from the producer. This black-and-white film shines brilliantly at the 20 12 Oscar ceremony. At first, Berg's reaction was negative, and he felt that his creativity had "hit the car" with others. However, after seeing this film, his thoughts have changed a lot. "The Artist is a retro film that pays tribute to American movies. But Snow White is more radical. It reviews European films in the 1920s, such as Mona, Abel Gance (born in 1889) and Dreier. In their movies, vision is more important than dialogue. " Another extravagant hope of Berg is that the audience can watch the film with live music. He once enjoyed the live symphony version of Greed (Raaheim, 1924) in the theater and was deeply shocked by it. Snow White takes a long time to prepare and shoot. In 2003, Pablo Berger directed his first film, Happy Pornography, which became a box office dark horse in Spain and was released in more than 50 countries around the world. Nominated for Best Director, Best Film and Best Actor and Actress by Goya Award of Spanish Academy, Berg became a highly anticipated new generation director. In 2007, the film was remake as "Big Movie 2.0" by China director Forrest Gump. Snow White is Berg's first work after nine years. Maribel Verdú, who plays the poison queen, decided to join the film from the beginning. Snow White premiered at Toronto Film Festival in North America in 20 12, and won a special prize from the jury of San Sebastian International Film Festival. Meanwhile, Macarena García, who plays Snow White in the film, won the Silver Shell Award for Best Actress. The film also defeated the seventh group, artists and models, and finally got the qualification to declare the best foreign language film of 20 13 on behalf of Spain.
Snow White is a magical movie that can awaken children in people's hearts. Pablo Berger: I can only learn about movies in this way. All my works come from my inner children and some childhood imagination. I began to remember scattered pictures when I was three years old. After I was eighteen, my life became as "normal" as everyone else. Between the ages of three and eighteen, you can use your imagination to feel the world. Some details in the film are quite different from fairy tales. This film is about my personal charm, whether it is the theme or the visual expression. My purpose is to surprise the audience. This is the only rule I follow. Jean-Claude Carrière, a screenwriter who has worked with bunuel and milos forman, said the same thing: If you are writing a script and you think the story is too logical, the audience will guess what will happen next-don't write it down, change your mind immediately-but at the same time, make the story credible. Snow White received a good response in Toronto and San Sebastian, and was selected as the Olympic bid film by Spain. Toronto is one of the largest film festivals and markets, where you can learn how the international audience views this film, and the results are incredible. People are moved by this crazy Spanish story about matador and Flamengo, and don't find it difficult to understand. The praise of the film critics is like that written by my relatives. This film has been welcomed by many countries. Although the relationship between Spanish movies and Hollywood movies is like that between David and Goliath, sometimes David can beat Goliath. Before that, Happy Porn (the first film directed by Berg in 2003) was released in many countries in the world. After the success of Happy Porn, why did it take so long to release the second work? A lot has happened here. In 2005, I finished the script of Snow White. The producer wants to make it into a black-and-white film, but it is not as close to a silent film as it is now. And the budget at that time was also very large. I hope to find foreign investors like "Happy Porn", but it is not smooth. Then there is producer Ibon Cormenzana, who has just set up Acadia Film Company with the goal of making medium and high-cost international cooperative films. I showed him the script, and he said it was the best script he had ever seen in his life. The enthusiastic producer's original words at that time were "It will be difficult, but we can do it together." What was your reaction after the film The Artist was released? I was very anxious. I discovered the existence of Snow White a week before it started shooting. A friend of mine sent me a short message from Cannes Film Festival, which said, "This will be good for you …" But my first reaction after the surprise was not happy. Although directors like guy maddin are also making this kind of film (black and white silent film), what we are doing is the first attempt of mainstream film. But in the end, the artist's influence on Snow White is still beneficial. Like an icebreaker, it changed people's prejudice against black and white silent films. Through "Happy Pornography", you gave a new life to "destape cinema" (the Spanish use this word to refer to a small movie between comedy and pornography), and now you are trying it on silent movies. I like making movies in my own style. As a director, I also work as a screenwriter. My work is very personal. Like to "pay tribute", but don't copy, don't copy. I like to use existing forms, change them and create new things; Join the feelings of today's world to impress the audience in today's world. How do you strike a balance between the two? My film is an intuition, which comes from courage and heart. There is no way to analyze it. That's why directors choose to make films for themselves. I can't imagine a particular audience type. I hope Snow White can impress many audiences like me. I don't know if the public will like it, but I do. Besides Snow White, the film also uses elements from fairy tales and literary works, such as Cinderella, Oliver Twist and Alice in Wonderland. Alberto Iglesias, a famous Spanish composer who has been nominated for many Oscars and often cooperates with Amodova, created the soundtrack for the film. This film won the special prize of the jury of the 20 12 San Sebastian International Film Festival. Meanwhile, Macarena García, who plays Snow White in the film, won the Silver Shell Award for Best Actress. The film represented Spain in the 85th Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film 20 13. The film director Berg has been preparing for this film for eight years, and Maribel Verdú, who plays the poison queen, decided to join the film from the beginning.
