Now that the Arctic glaciers are melting, how many years is it expected that the earth will disappear into the water?
Experts predict that in a few hundred years or so. On September 3rd, the British Daily Mail published a photo of the melting of Norwegian Arctic glaciers. In the photo, a terrible face appeared in the melting ice wall, and the melting water became the "sad tears" left by this terrible face. The photographer who took the photo of "Crying Glacier" was environmentalist Michael Nolan, and the shooting location was Ostfangna Glacier. With an area of over 7,700 square kilometers, this glacier is the largest glacier in Svalbard, Norway, and one of the largest glaciers in the Arctic. Nolan has come to Ostfana Glacier every year for more than ten years to investigate the development trend of glaciers and its impact on animal ecology. As a result, Nolan found that the glacier area is decreasing every year, and the decreasing trend is getting faster and faster. Glaciers are one of the victims of global warming. After the melting of glaciers, people and other creatures will suffer, because the melting of global glaciers will bring a series of disasters such as floods, mudslides and rising sea levels. Recently, WWF released the climate report "Arctic Climate Response: Global Impact", focusing on the changes of Arctic climate and glaciers. According to this report, the temperature in the Arctic region is rising twice as fast as that in other parts of the earth, which may cause floods and affect 25% of the global population. The report also pointed out that by 2 100, due to the melting of glaciers, the global sea level is likely to rise by more than 1 m, which is more than twice the forecast result of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007. Scientists from the European Space Agency also admitted through satellite monitoring that the melting speed of Arctic ice has been accelerating in recent years. The sea ice coverage has dropped to 3 million square kilometers. Similarly, studies by European environmental agencies also show that the volume of Arctic glaciers is only half that of the 1950s.
