What are the strategies for portrait photography?

How to put a portrait in a flower garden? Or conversely, how to add flower elements and interesting scenes to the portrait theme? This is one of the topics that environmental portrait photographers have been thinking about. The following is the portrait shooting strategy I carefully recommend for everyone, hoping to help you.

Shooting mode

Because the control of depth of field is the focus of the racket, aperture priority and full closure control can be said to be important options.

In the shooting mode, because the control of depth of field is very important for the shooting of flowers, it is suggested that one gear can be used directly, that is, the aperture priority mode.

The control of aperture is not to use large aperture blindly. When you want to express one or several flowers independently and emphasize the subject, you can approach the subject and blur the background with a large aperture. To show the relationship between foreground and background, you can use an aperture of about f5.6. If you have a large field of vision and want it to be clear, you can use an aperture of about f 1 1.

At present, with the combination of digital SLR and lens, F5.6 is often the best aperture setting. And portrait mirror such as 85mm lens, f2.8 is a very sharp state.

If you shoot along the light, the focus of shooting is on time and light quality. In early spring, the light is soft and beautiful and the sun is not too hot. If you can shoot before 3:00 pm or 10:00 pm, the light is still quite soft.

Backlight shooting can make flowers and leaves appear translucent, and make people, scenery and flowers … sharp, and the whole image will be quite three-dimensional. Of course, when shooting against the light, we should pay attention to the problem of filling the light of the characters, and don't let the faces of the characters turn black, so that there will be no feeling of flowers and beautiful women being dull. When filling the light, you can combine the reflector and the flash.

What are the characters' clothes and skirts like when they are backlit? It is also the focus of consideration, because some clothes will also have the feeling of light transmission. Whether to make the image too sexy, the photographer may have to discuss the tonality with you in advance.

Use the foreground to express the sense of space in the scene.

In the scene, you can go back a little first, observe the scene again, and see what the foreground is in the right color and can be used. When shooting, if you can show the feelings of the three scenes at the same time, the whole picture will not only have a better sense of space, but also show different charm and feelings through the foreground.

Try different angles, compositions, distances and focal lengths.

In the same scene, in order to make the image look more colorful, photographers can use different angles, such as horizontal composition, vertical composition, abnormal composition and so on, in addition to setting different scenes for models. Be close to the model, lengthen the distance with a telephoto lens, or change different lenses to interpret the diversity of the picture.

Although it is an easy-to-understand principle, in practice, people are still easily fascinated by scenes and beautiful women, and only pay attention to capturing the charm in a single shooting method. Of course, in the subsequent map selection, try to make the scene single and don't choose too many images. How to turn a single scene into a different feeling, or imitate the feeling of different scenes, is a great test for photographers!

Matters needing attention

Ladders are sometimes necessary.

Because of the angle, sometimes it is necessary to prepare a ladder and then shoot it from the air with a wide angle, which usually has a very different shock. This is because in the flower field, we may not be able to find the commanding heights. Images are more common when everyone is shooting at a parallel or low angle.

Consideration of exposure compensation +/-EV

The color of flowers is an important factor affecting the aesthetic feeling of the picture. In order to express proper colors, the consideration of exposure compensation is very important. As for the general concept, we need to add EV to white flowers to prevent them from turning gray. When using large dark flowers, we need to reduce EV to avoid overexposure. This is the concept of white plus black.

When colors are mixed, white can be used as the basis of photometry to avoid overexposure of white flowers. These are just basic principles, and we should observe the situation of the scene to adjust the exposure.

Press out the saturation of the blue sky with a flash.

If the blue sky can become bluer, the color is more delicate, and the portrait is exposed evenly, it is usually a very attractive image to shoot on a sunny day. We can use CPL or flash to increase the saturation of the blue sky.

Whether to use CPL or flash depends on the light difference of the whole scene at that time. When using the flash, you can measure the blue sky, slightly lower the setting of 1/2 or one grid, and then use the flash to make up the light of the characters, which can make the blue sky more saturated.

Borrowing position

The arrangement of characters in the scene, taking Huatian as an example, sometimes whether the characters can enter Huatian depends on whether the management unit of Huatian opens * * *, creating an atmosphere of people among flowers. At this time, you can use the optical illusion of borrowing power to shoot.

For example, you put a character in the passage between two fields, lower the angle, and bring all the scenes before, during and after, which looks like a person in the flowers. Or in the corner of the flower field, the camera and the person are at 90-degree right angles. Taking flowers as the prospect will also show people's feelings among flowers.

Make good use of props

Props can increase the interest and diversity of the whole scene. We can imagine a beautiful girl playing the cello or violin in a flower field, with her hair fluttering in the wind and her music fluttering in the wind. Is it an artistic image?

Not only musical instruments, such as balloons, bicycles, hats, etc. It will also be a good shooting prop, which will add a new element to the picture besides people, flowers and scenery.

Show other elements of the scene to increase the atmosphere.

Sometimes there are some distinctive buildings next to the flower sea. Consider bringing these buildings into the image, and you will feel a different atmosphere. In addition, the clouds in the sky are also an important element. Of course, this factor can be met but not sought. However, it is necessary to observe the situation on the spot at any time and make proper arrangements in order to get different new ideas. Shooting area

On the other hand, we don't have to put all the models in the mirror. We can consider taking pictures of the model's eyes, sides, back or hands. Regional image will guide us to expand our imagination. Of course, it also allows images to have different thinking spaces.

shooting angle

Seven-sided portrait

Seven-sided portrait means that the face of the subject turns slightly to one side, but most of the front face of the subject can still be seen from the direction of the camera. If divided according to the proportion of the front and side of the subject's face, the seven-face image should be dominated by the front and only a small part by the side. This seven-faced portrait can not only show the positive appearance of the subject, but also be flexible and easy to achieve good results. Another feature of choosing seven-side shooting is that it is not as prominent as the contour lines on both sides of the subject's face in the front portrait, but the contour lines on the narrower side are the most vivid, while the contour lines on the wider side take a secondary position and do not appear so prominent. In shooting, if the contour lines on both sides of some subjects' faces are not very symmetrical, we can turn their faces to the side with beautiful contours, so that the slightly defective side is in a less prominent position and try to show the appearance of the subjects. However, for people with high cheekbones, it is not appropriate to use seven-point beat, because it will make the high cheekbones more exposed.

Three-sided portrait

Three-sided portrait means that the shooting angle of the subject is a little more sideways than that of the seven-sided portrait. Although the front of the subject's face can still be seen from the direction of the camera, the proportion of the front is not as large as that of the side. Compared with the seven-sided portrait, in the three-sided portrait, the outline of the narrower side is more vivid and important; Moreover, the height of the bridge of the nose is more obvious, and the wider contour lines on the face side are less prominent visually. Therefore, if the contours on both sides of some subjects' faces are not very symmetrical, we can turn them to the beautiful side of the contour when shooting, so that the slightly flawed side is in a less prominent position. For people with too high cheekbones, it is not suitable to use three-sided shooting, because it will make the too high cheekbones more exposed, just like seven sides. When shooting three-sided portraits, the tip of the subject's nose should not touch or exceed the contour of the face. If the tip of the nose touches or exceeds the contour of the face, it is basically a profile portrait.

Profile portrait

Side portrait refers to the portrait in which the subject faces the side of the camera and forms an angle of about 90 degrees with the optical axis of the camera lens. Shooting from this direction, its modeling feature is to focus on the side image of the subject, especially the contour features of the subject's face when viewed from the side, including the contours of forehead, nose, mouth and chin. Of course, if you take a bust or a full-length portrait, it also includes the side of your body. However, when shooting from the side, the body of the subject does not have to make a 90-degree angle with the optical axis of the camera lens, and the face faces the side, but the body can face the oblique side or the front. This still belongs to the profile portrait.

Because in silhouette portrait, the profile of the subject's face is very sharp, so only people with very beautiful profile are suitable for shooting like this. If the forehead of the subject is too big or too low, or the nose is too high or too concave, the mouth is not straight, and the chin is too sharp or too short, it is not suitable for shooting from the side. Pay special attention to this when choosing the shooting angle.
