How much is one plus eight?

Jun-Zhao Zheng, male, 1952, from Changle, Henan. 1978 was admitted to the director department of Beijing Film Academy, and 1982 was assigned to Guangxi Film Studio as a director after graduation. 1983 directed the first film One and Eight.

The film story takes place in the Central Hebei Plain in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's time. Wang Jin, the instructor of the Eighth Route Army, was framed as a spy and locked up with eight criminals, including bandits and baldies. In the harsh environment, he still focused on the cause of national liberation, influenced and educated the bandits and deserters in prison with his broad mind and revolutionary ideas, and made them bravely kill the enemy to atone for their sins at the grim moment when they were surrounded by devils. Wang Jin regained the trust of the party and the people. The film changed the bright colors of previous war films, and used black, white and gray to create a sculptural sense of strength for the first time, revealing the distortion of body and spirit, the complex relationship between characters and the specific war atmosphere with incomplete composition. This film breaks the traditional paradigm in the use of film language and shows the historical personality of visual modeling, which has its special significance in the history of China film. Photography style is also often used to contrast light and black-and-white prints to echo the theme of the film. This film is the pioneering work of the fifth generation of directors to explore the film, and wonderful works have been presented since then.
