What are the characteristics of Yao costumes "Bai Ku Yao" and "Yao Hong"?
Bai Yaohe
Yao nationality has many branches and different costumes. Therefore, in the past, Yao people were called by different nationalities because of their different clothes colors, trousers styles and headdresses. Yao men in Nandan, Guangxi are called "Bai Ku Yao" because they wear collared shirts and knee-length shorts, and their crotch is large and white. Longsheng Yao people are called "Red Yao" because they wear red embroidered clothes, which reflects the richness of colors and styles of Yao costumes from one side.
Exquisite indigo printing and dyeing
Yao women are good at indigo printing and dyeing, and still retain a set of printing and dyeing techniques. They soaked their own bluegrass, extracted indigo, added Chinese liquor, filtered it with plant ash, fermented it to yellow, and then dyed the cloth. In the process of dyeing cloth, it should be soaked and dried for many times until the cloth is dark blue with deep red. In order to make the cloth durable and dark in color, the dyed cloth should be put into stewed cowhide solution or pig blood solution to steam dry.
Embroider a multi-god costume
The beauty of Yao costumes is also reflected in flower picking and composition. The pattern of flower picking and the characteristics of clothing are a reflection of religion to some extent. Yao people in Xilin County, Guangxi Province have kept a kind of "master" (religious) costume for hundreds of years, embroidered with many gods, such as mountain gods, Raytheon and sun gods, which expressed the psychological characteristics of Yao people's various worship.
Colored headdress
Yao headdresses are quite distinctive, creating colorful headdresses such as "Dragon", "A", "Crescent Moon" and "Flying Swallow". Some wore bamboo arrows, some erected roofs, some wore pointy hats, and some wore bamboo shells. Yao women in Hexian County, Guangxi wear more than ten layers of tower-shaped hats, which is quite spectacular. Yao women in Hunan painted their hair with beeswax and pricked the top. No matter whether it is cold or hot, they are all wrapped in flower handkerchiefs and covered with a moth-crowned cloak to protect them from the wind and shade. They are handsome and generous, just like a "bachelor hat" or a princess's embroidered crown. Taking off the moth crown after marriage means that you are married and have started a new life.
