[Artist Introduction]

Matsumoto Mingde, who is closely related to China, once collected folk musical instruments in minority areas of China. He will use Wulong bamboo weaving and local bamboo weaving artists to complete his exhibition-sound theater, and will let his creativity help local artists.

When I was young, Matsumoto, like some confused artists, could not find his own way. He painted oil paintings, played photography and did video experiments, but in the end he always broke up in discord.

Until one day, Matsumoto went to play in the park near his home and accidentally picked up a bamboo musical instrument. The "jingle" sound made by musical instruments is crisp and pleasant, which is very pleasant to listen to. Matsumoto just takes local materials and simply imitates them. Beautiful shapes and natural sounds attracted many people to watch. At that moment, Matsumoto began to understand that good works can interact with people, whether sensory or emotional.

Since then, 30-year-old Matsumoto has started a creative journey with "sound" as the medium. He has traveled to Southeast Asia, China, Yunnan and Guizhou for a long time, and is used to collecting small bells and musical instruments as creative inspiration.

From the beginning, all the materials that can form works, such as metal and wood, were used to make small musical instruments, and then gradually decreased to bamboo. Good plasticity and simple texture are the reasons why Matsumoto chose bamboo. More than 300 kinds of small bamboo musical instruments were invented back and forth, and Matsumoto put them together, thus creating the "Bamboo Sound Theater".

Up to now, Matsumoto's Athena Chu Theater has been exhibited as many as 100 times all over the world, and it will be recreated according to the local environment and culture every time, so I won't go into details here.

This time, I was invited to participate in the international earth art season in Wulong Lamba. Matsumoto chose a half-century old adobe house, which was on the verge of demolition. He brought his most representative 30 kinds of small musical instruments and re-created them with local bamboo weavers.

In the past six months, they have learned and studied from each other. In addition to Matsumoto's original creative ideas, such as how to cut bamboo knots faster and the modeling ideas of indoor waves, these folk craftsmen have more surprises in their works.

Brief introduction of Athena Chu Theatre

From mid-September last year, I began to visit the site selection, and now the creation has been basically completed. Matsumoto took his most famous project-"Athena Chu Theater" as the prototype, adapted to local conditions, and used more than 65,438+000 pieces of small bamboo musical instruments, which revived this originally abandoned earthen house.

From a distance, these bamboo gadgets look like dragonflies, birds, big fish and windmills. Take a closer look and exclaim: each one is actually a small musical instrument that can make sounds! The sound of the huqin, the bell and the erhu makes them full of vitality.

They are distributed in various areas of this house, some of which are interpreted as the ocean, but there are Japanese dry mountains and rivers culture; Some interpret the forest and present the texture of time; Others come from hills, moon shadows, mountain winds, birds and insects, and foggy forests.

Especially the scene on the second floor, with the concept of shadow play, describes the transformation of light and shadow from sunrise to sunset. Forests, waterwheels, rivers and fish swim among them, and the aura and magic are overflowing. Walking in is like walking into a distant childhood dream.

There are similar scenes inside and outside the room, and the artist's attention and utilization can be realized.

The sounds of nature in Shan Ye are embedded in the shell of a seemingly ordinary country villa. When you stand in the middle and listen, you will feel that these "jingling" sounds are the harmony of the old house. After sleeping for half a century, it finally woke up. What awakened all this was Matsumoto's "magic".
