International cooperation of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing

Since 2006, the Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing has played a much expanded role in promoting international cooperation to promote progress in photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information systems. There are three types of organizations related to the Society: United Nations System organizations, organizations associated with the United Nations and other societies in relevant fields of science and technology.

(a) Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

The Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing has observer status in the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. Since 1989, the Secretary-General of the Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing has spoken at every February meeting of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on Outer Space Affairs and at every June meeting of the Committee on Outer Space Affairs. The Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Society maintains liaison with the Office for Outer Space Affairs, United Nations Member States and the United Nations Secretariat on all matters related to outer space activities. The Office for Outer Space Affairs also organizes conferences and education and training programs on various aspects of space science.

(b) United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

The Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing has an information and consultative relationship with UNESCO as a category B non-governmental organization. This relationship Makes the Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Society eligible for some funding and the opportunity to make proposals.

(c) Economic and Social Council

The Institute for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing is a non-governmental organization in consultative status with UNESCO and the United Nations Office at Vienna. As with UNESCO, the Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing has submitted reports and received many United Nations documents. The Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing actively participates in United Nations regional mapping conferences, prepares background and scientific documents for these conferences, and contributes to policy discussions and resolutions.

(d) Department of Public Information

The Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing participates in the annual meetings of the Department of Public Information of the United Nations Secretariat and receives monthly documents on United Nations activities. The Department of Public Information allowed two members of the Governing Council of the Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing to use the United Nations Photographic Library Service.

(e) Department of Development Support and Management

The Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing coordinates and consults with staff of the Development Branch of the United Nations Secretariat to promote cooperation with the United Nations regional The Group’s international cooperation activities.

(f) International Federation of Technical Associations and Organizations

The Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing is a member of the Federation of Technical Associations, an international federation of engineering and technical organizations. NGO

Lead organization, coordinating with UNESCO, UNIDO and ECOSOC, and promoting cooperation with these organizations to initiate collaborative projects in the developing world. The federation has merged with the World Federation of Engineering Organizations to become the International Council for Engineering and Technology. (g) International Organization for Standardization

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a worldwide federation of national standardization agencies. International standards of the Standardization Organization are formulated in agreement with member state agencies. International organizations such as the Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing may obtain liaison status (category A or B) within an ISO technical committee, an ISO subcommittee or an ISO working group. Those with Category A liaison status are entitled to full participation, while those with Category B liaison status can only receive information. The Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing currently has liaison status within the following technical committees of the ISO: ISO/TC20 "Aircraft and spacecraft", ISO/TC42 "Photography", ISO TC/172 "Optics and optical instruments", its subcommittee " "Electronic Optical Systems" and ISO TC211 "Geographic Information/Geomathematics".

(h) World Bank Sub-Saharan Africa Environmental Information System

(i) International Social Sciences Council

The Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and the International Social Sciences The Council has collaborative arrangements with several of its working groups.

(j) International Commission on Photogrammetry for Architectural Design

(k) International Council on Monuments and Monuments

The Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and the Council on Monuments and Monuments respectively report to The governing body, the International Committee for Photogrammetry of Architectural Design, provides 6 members. The International Conference of the International Committee on Photogrammetry for Architectural Design is held every two years to discuss the latest developments in photogrammetry for architectural design.

(l) Committee on Earth Observation Satellites

The Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing is establishing formal arrangements with the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites so that a closer working relationship can be established.
