How to evaluate the movie The Big Event?

Nice movie.

The Big Event is a gangster film directed by director Du Qifeng and co-starring Richie Jen, Kelly Chen and Nick Cheung. The film was released in June 2004. This film tells the story of how the Hong Kong police confronted the gangsters after a failed mission to restore public confidence and re-establish their image. Du Qifeng won the Best Director Award at the 42nd Golden Horse Award for this film.

"Big Event" is shot in daily life scenes, with natural light as light and actual sound as sound. The biggest challenge in shooting was the first 8-minute shooting scene, which took 3 days.

In order to match the plot of big events, director Du Qifeng adopted a fresh shooting technique of "long lens 10 minutes", giving up the usual editing process. To this end, the production team specially invited the photographer who shot The Lord of the Rings to come to Hong Kong to do it himself. After studying the script, the latter found that he was incompetent at all, so he backed out.

The film crew resolutely relied on their own efforts to rent an unprecedented 160-foot-long shooting track and set up a heavy boom as high as 25 feet to meet the needs of shooting angles.

Du Qifeng can see familiar faces in supporting roles, such as Lin Xue, Yam Tat-wah and Shao Meiqi, but the protagonists are Richie Jen, Nick Cheung and Kelly Chen, who have never cooperated. In the past, the roles of the three leading actors tended to be stylized, giving people a feeling of lack of depth and mediocre acting. Du Qifeng used them, using a lot of long shots and large-scale scenes to reveal the other side of the three actors.

Two robbers, played by mainland actors You Yongzhi and Ding Haifeng, played the most wonderful roles. Ding Haifeng doesn't have many lines, but his cold body language and eyes are very convincing; The apparent calm in You Yongzhi has left a deep impression on people. The scene where he and Richie Jen are cooking together in the kitchen fully shows the personalities of the two thieves.
