Why Bangkok is called the "Buddhist Capital"

When it comes to Buddhism, many people will think of India. If we talk about the "Buddhist Capital", some people will think of a certain city in India. In fact, the real "Buddhist capital" is Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

More than 90% of the population in Thailand believe in Buddhism, and it is known as the "Yellow Robe Buddha Country". More representatively, Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, has the most Buddhist temples in the world, with more than 400 large and small Buddhist temples.

Among the many temples in Bangkok, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Temple of the Reclining Buddha, and Temple of the Golden Buddha are the most famous and are known as Thailand's three national treasures. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha enshrines a Jade Buddha carved from emerald jade that is 66 cm high and 48 cm wide. The entire Jade Buddha is enshrined on a throne made of gold, which is priceless; the Temple of the Reclining Buddha enshrines a Jade Buddha that is 48.7 meters long and 12.2 meters high. The huge reclining Buddha weighs 5,500 kilograms; and the Golden Buddha Temple is no slouch either, enshrining a giant Buddha made of 5,500 kilograms of pure gold.

In addition, Bangkok not only has many temples, but also many monks and nuns. The headquarters of the "World Buddhist Federation" with 32 member countries is located in Bangkok. Therefore, Bangkok, Thailand, is well-deserved as the “Buddhist Capital”.
