Recommend four war movies: half of our people on the front line were killed, but the other half are still alive.

"People my age started a war. Why should young boys die?"

In "Dunkirk" with few lines, what the old man said in a civilian boat to rescue soldiers was calmly drawn in the colorful soundtrack of Hans Zimmer, but it was a heavy hammer.

Compared with the complex structure in Nolan's previous films, "Dunkirk" has converged a lot, but this "structural genius" still uses multi-line narration to create a space-time world completely different from the classic war film mode.

This is a big retreat involving more than 300,000 people in three periods. Under the team behavior of collective heroism, every individual's small and great efforts are not without a song of soldiers who shuttled between stray bullets, flowed under the waves and echoed above the clouds.

Nolan chose the famous military retreat "Dunkirk Retreat" in the history of World War II, and used the parallel narrative of three lines of land, sea and air to show the great power formed by individual behavior and individual combination in different situations during the retreat.

In the long film history, we have witnessed countless vivid soldiers. Fireflies in Fei Huo, they are either charging for the next position or planning to retreat to save their strength. War is a great man's ambition and cruel game. For every flesh-and-blood soldier who is forced into the pain of war, I am afraid that there is only "one success, ten thousand bones wither." What they expect is to live intact and then go home.

These war movies did not completely deconstruct any war scene, but chose a very special angle to observe the soldiers in every battle.

1. glorious road

Paths of Glory

Institutional victims behind the war

Kubrick made this anti-war film about World War I in 1957, which subtly transferred the cruelty of war from the battlefield to the dark system behind the war.

The title "The Road to Glory" was once considered as satire. A corporal and two soldiers were wrongly taken to the execution ground. For the promotion of the general's career and the preservation of his reputation, the three soldiers at the bottom were unjustly accused by the military court of "showing cowardice in front of the enemy."

On the battlefield, they are deployed chess pieces. Under the battlefield, there are still a pair of invisible hands in control. Completely innocent, they were sentenced to death and died like ants from the evil system behind the cruel war.

The only person who cares about these soldiers and always defends them is Colonel Dax who fought with them at the front. In the face of matter of justice in the military court, Colonel Dax said, "I have been ashamed of being a human being several times, and this will be the first time."

2. Full Metal Jacket

Full Metal Jacket

Deprived of personality

Still Kubrick, The Road to Glory ends with soldiers and people who are about to return to the front line, and The All-metal Jacket begins with a close-up of soldiers who are shaving their heads before joining the army. The military lecture full of dirty words is destined to leave a name in the history of movies. An instructor abused these recruits with a scream that was almost screaming. These dirty words contain strong personal attacks, gender discrimination, sexual orientation discrimination and racial discrimination.

Even so, this absurd opening didn't make us afraid or uncomfortable at first. On the contrary, it had an American sense of humor.

Until the eve of graduation, a chubby soldier finally couldn't stand the endless abuse and exclusion brought by his comrades-in-arms because of their poor physical fitness, and chose to kill the instructor and himself. Only then did we realize that this was not a game. Before the real war began, a young soldier died in a pool of blood in the boot camp. In a high-pressure and inhuman environment, a soldier's personality was stripped.

3. Billy Lynn's long intermission walk

Billy Lynn's long intermission walk

Incalculable war wounds

The trauma a soldier experienced in the war is incalculable to ordinary people. Because of the fierce fighting in the Iraq war for a long time, Billy Lynn and his comrades still showed discomfort in some ordinary daily situations after returning home, even in a peaceful state. They made an exaggerated instinctive defense response when they were suddenly touched in an unknown state, and were seriously frightened by the stage fireworks in the rehearsal of the halftime performance.

Blood is exhausted in war, but it is difficult to move in peace.

Billy Lynn became an American hero because of a rescue of his comrades-in-arms, and was invited back to China to give an intermission performance in a football match to reward his meritorious service. The day when he fought bravely and was praised was "the worst day of his life". The best monitor and comrade-in-arms died that day, and he almost died himself.

A survey shows that many long-term prisoners can't adapt to the life order, rhythm, communication law or jungle law of normal society after coming out of prison. Then, some people deliberately commit crimes and choose to return to prison, because they can get the "security" of collective life there.

Billy Lynn finally chose to return to the battlefield in Iraq, where the gunfire was fierce, but for an injured soldier, it was a "safer" place than his hometown.

4. Soldiers' Song

Баллада о солдате

You can't go back.

The director's choice of film core expression is different, and the audience's perceptual experience will be thousands of miles away. Similarly, they all returned to China briefly after winning the meritorious military service. Ang Lee talked about a soldier's self-war trauma, depression, sadness and helplessness when he came home from the battlefield.

However, autumn made a soldier experience friendship, love and affection on his way home. Although he finally returned home and only met his mother for a few minutes, the audience could still feel the warmth given by soldier Alesha along the way.

"Song of Soldiers" in flashbacks, at the beginning of the narration wrote:

"This is a path to the city.

Those who leave the village and those who go home,

You have to go through this road.

She's not waiting for anyone,

Her son, Ayosha,

It is never possible to come back from the battlefield.

He was buried in a foreign country far from his motherland.

In that unknown village,

The stranger laid flowers at his tombstone.

They called him a Russian soldier, hero and liberator.

But to his mother, he is just a son.

She knows everything about him,

From the day he was born to the day he went to the front. "

Billy Lynn and Alesha finally returned to the battlefield. From then on, father, son and husband were collectively called "soldiers". These soldiers, from the day they left home, never came back.
