Historical evolution

Most areas of Zhuhai City were under the jurisdiction of Zhongshan County (formerly known as Xiangshan County) from the Southern Song Dynasty to the Republic of China. According to the polished stones and painted pottery discovered by archaeologists, primitive tribes lived here as early as the Neolithic Age, four to five thousand years ago. The remains of our ancestors have been left on the sand dunes, hills, and mesas around the Phoenix Mountains and on some islands in the Pearl River Estuary.

During the Warring States Period, it was the land of Baiyue. After Qin Shihuang unified China, he established Nanhai County in Lingnan in the 33rd year (214 BC), which was under the jurisdiction of Nanhai County.

In the early Han Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of the Nanyue Kingdom. In the sixth year of Yuanding in the Han Dynasty (111 BC), it was under the jurisdiction of Panyu County until the Eastern Han Dynasty.

During the Three Kingdoms period, it was under the jurisdiction of the State of Wu.
