Introduction to Van Gogh’s life and works
About the author
Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter. He was a pioneer of Expressionism and deeply influenced twentieth-century art, especially Fauvism and German Expressionism. Van Gogh's works, such as "Starry Night", "Sunflowers" and "Wheatfield with Crows", are now among the most famous, widely known and expensive works of art in the world. On July 29, 1890, Van Gogh finally suffered from mental illness and ended his young life on the beautiful banks of the Oise River in France. He was only 37 years old.

"Starlight", "Van Gogh in Arles" "Bedroom", "Suspension Bridge near Arles", etc., all contain a profound sense of tragedy as well as a strong personality and unique pursuit of form. Although his works were difficult to accept at that time, they had a profound impact on Western painting art in the 20th century.
