Wedding Shooting Skills of Novice Photographers

Wedding photography is one of the most challenging photography types for photographers. Below I will share with you the wedding photography skills of novice photographers. Welcome to read!

experience

When people know that you have a professional camera, their chances of asking you to help shoot the wedding will be very high. Before you decide to help, especially if this is a paid shoot, you need to know your own strength clearly. You have to honestly explain your past experience to each other. If you are not confident that you can shoot well, let the other party spend more money to find a professional wedding photography team.

Equally important is the equipment. Ideally, you need to bring two cameras suitable for wedding shooting, a complete lens and an external flash. More importantly, you must thoroughly understand the equipment you use and have enough confidence to use it skillfully. The wedding can no longer be broadcast live, because the equipment problem will affect the shooting, which is a pity.

If you are not confident to be the main photographer of the wedding from the beginning, then you can try to start as an assistant photographer, try some special angles, shoot some touching corners or imitate some wonderful scenes in the wedding, which is a very good experience.

Exposure; expose

Most brides wear elegant white wedding dresses at weddings to make themselves look beautiful, but it is this beautiful wedding dress that often bothers photographers, because overexposure is the biggest nightmare of wedding photographers, and it is easy to make the wedding dress look like a bright white ball and lose the details of the clothes. But on the contrary (underexposure) will make the wedding dress look dark and messy.

The best exposure photos can reflect all the details and tones. One advantage of digital camera over film camera is that it can check the exposure of photos immediately after taking pictures and make corresponding adjustments. When you look at the camera histogram, if you find that the color levels are mainly distributed in the right part, and there is no "overflow" phenomenon in the leftmost and rightmost parts, it proves that this is a correct and bright photo.

At the same time, you can use the camera's automatic surround exposure mode to get multiple photos with different exposures in the same scene. You can also turn on the camera's highlight warning function, so that the camera can warn you by flashing continuously in the overexposed area of the photo.

background

Most experienced photographers usually get familiar with the wedding venue before the wedding, and find the ideal photo location for the newlyweds and their families. A beautiful and clean background can add a lot of color to a photo, but it doesn't mean you have to find a plain or boring place as the background.

sunlight

If you can get familiar with the venue before the wedding, you can not only be more handy in the next shooting, but also predict the lighting situation in advance. You know, if you choose a beautiful background, but the new people in the photo are squinting, it is a very depressing thing. So you need to find a place with a suitable background that can provide shadows, or find someone to pull a huge soft screen when taking pictures.

Eye contact

Photographers who have just come into contact with wedding photography have a shortcoming, that is, they lack the awareness of always paying attention to the couple's actions, so that they miss some important moments. This may lead you to take a good set of photos, but if you look closely, you will find that the couples in the photos lack basic eye contact, but all look at the camera under your command.

You know, when the other party asks you to be a photographer for their wedding, they don't just want to put on an expression and wait for you to shoot, but want you to record those warm and touching moments at their wedding, so you need to be ready at all times to capture as many sweet moments as possible, especially when the bride and groom look at each other affectionately.

Pay attention to every aspect of things.

If you are not the main photographer of the wedding, you don't have to do everything. But if the bride and groom pay you to shoot for them and become the main photographer, then you need to make sure that you get the scenes and people they want you to shoot. It's best to communicate with the bride and groom in advance and make a list of things they want you to take, then you can work in an orderly way at the wedding.

Equipment failure

During the wedding, if your camera falls to the ground or suddenly breaks down, no matter how expensive the equipment is, you can only hold back your tears and continue shooting, because this may be the most important moment in the life of the bride and groom. They want such an important thing from you out of trust.

So you should prepare two copies of your equipment in case the fuselage or lens is broken, and you can replace it immediately. Another advantage of cameras and lenses with two different focal lengths is that they can quickly switch focal lengths without changing lenses. If you don't have two cameras or enough lenses for the wedding, renting is also a good idea.

Special widescreen film

Taking a group photo is not as easy as I thought. First of all, you have to get everyone together and avoid taking something irrelevant. Then you have to make sure that everyone in the photo looks clear, smiling and looking at the camera without blinking.

Gathering people can help you, but it's up to you how to arrange the crowd. You can let the bride and groom stand in the middle, let relatives and friends surround the couple, let taller people stand behind, and so on. Then you need to find an angle that can shoot everyone, and sometimes you need to borrow the escalator to get a higher angle. As a photographer, you often need to drive the subject's emotions. Taking such a big group photo, how to make everyone smile is a big test for photographers. You can consider making noise to attract attention, or winning a smile with your eighteen martial arts. As for the way to avoid blinking, you can ask the subjects to close their eyes first and then open them after you shout one, two and three.

When there are many people, there will always be various situations. At this time, you need to take more pictures in a scene to save one hand for later synthesis.

Forgotten details

Sometimes the bride will want you to take the time to shoot some details, such as beautifully decorated tables and chairs, rich dishes, beautiful bouquets and wedding cakes. Try to record these easily forgotten details by macro or still life shooting.

Original format

There are many risks in shooting a wedding, so it is necessary to shoot in RAW format to ensure that the exposure, color and white balance of the photo can be adjusted to the greatest extent when editing the image later.
