A Basic Introduction to Studying in Ritvedere Art College in the Netherlands

In recent years, there are more and more China students studying in the Netherlands. One of the important reasons why the Netherlands has become the new favorite of international students is that as a non-English-speaking country, this small western European country offers about 1,1 English-speaking majors for foreign students to choose from, including agriculture, architecture and environmental science, which are leading in the world.

At the same time, art colleges that have promoted Dutch design to the world and trained a large number of outstanding design talents are not to be outdone, and have launched international courses with relatively low tuition fees in English, attracting more and more creative and potential foreign students. The Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam is one of them.

application for admission

Wang Li is a master designer of de stijl in the Netherlands, Gerrit? Gerrit Rietveld, 1888-1965), one of the few China students in the famous art colleges, has just officially started his study in architectural design after successfully passing the comprehensive course of last year. "The number of Asians studying in Ritvedere has increased significantly this year, but overall, there are still fewer students in China." Wang Li said.

Wang Li, who comes from an artistic family, has loved painting and photography since she was a child. After graduating from high school, she directly applied to foreign art colleges for undergraduate studies. Ritvid College of Art, which has a free school spirit, aims to cultivate and bring into play the independent creativity of students with real talent and potential, and its enrollment process fully embodies this point. On the face of it, it seems that the admission requirement that you can apply with a high school diploma and there is no TOEFL IELTS requirement is quite loose, but it is actually quite challenging to submit your works for college evaluation during the application process.

Wang Li formally submitted an application six months before the start of the new semester, and sent a series of her works to the school as required, including photography, painting and video creation. "Ritvedere College values not the skill of the works, but the ideas and understanding of the creators, and further examines the applicant's independent personality and creative potential through the works." From this point of view, this internationally renowned college of design and art can be said to have a unique, sharp and critical vision in enrollment.

Once officially accepted by the college, practical problems such as visas and dormitories have been solved smoothly accordingly. Ritvid College of Art only charges 1995 euros a year for international undergraduate students, which is almost the same as that for students from EU countries. However, all this does not mean success. The college adopts the elimination system for the four-year undergraduate program offered by international students, and the comprehensive course in the first year is quite tense. It not only examines whether the student has an independent and critical vision, but also judges whether he/she has bold and flexible qualities. At the same time, all-English teaching and communication also tested the English level of the student. Only after successfully passing the first-year comprehensive course can you really be admitted to the college. At this time, students will formally enter the specific major of their choice.

Goal

Talking about why he chose architecture major, Wang Li said frankly that it was entirely out of personal interest. In recent years, with the rise of creative industries in China, the Netherlands has attracted more and more China students who intend to develop in the creative field with its international leading position in architectural design and industrial design. When many people ask for information about studying art and design in the Netherlands, one of the first questions they ask is: Will this major find a job in the future?

In Wang Li's view, this common phenomenon that personal development is seriously influenced by market trends not only reflects the very realistic rational attitude of China students, but also leads to the weakness that art education in China students and even in China lacks goals or is unclear. "The biggest difference between European students and us is that they have strong goals, which can be reflected in their choice of major direction and design creation. They know clearly what they want from beginning to end." He added.

And he himself seems to have made his future direction clearer under the influence of this persistent and independent spirit. Wang Li hopes that after graduation, he can bring the Dutch planning concept in architectural design back to China, and he also hopes that China design with strong imitation will really have its own style.
