Why did Shangguan Waner's private life make plum blossom makeup popular in the Tang Dynasty?

Shangguan Waner was born in Shanxian County, Shaanxi Province (now Shanzhou District, Sanmenxia, Henan Province). Her grandfather Shangguan Yi was framed for rebellion, convicted and killed, and Shangguan Waner and her family were implicated. He was demoted to a handmaiden with his mother Zheng and sent to the palace to be driven away.

Shangguan Waner is clever and good at writing poems and compositions. At the age of fourteen, Wu Zetian took a fancy to him and was in charge of the patent system.

During the reign of Tang Zhongzong, he was named Zhao Rong, so he was also called Shangguan Zhao Rong. He continued to be responsible for drafting and issuing imperial edicts and was once in power.

In the fourth year of Jinglong (AD 7 10), Li Longji, the king of Linzi, staged a coup, and Shangguan Waner and Wei Ruyun were beheaded, leaving 32 posthumous works, all of which were included in the whole Tang poetry.

During the Tang Dynasty, plum blossom makeup was popular in the court, also known as plum blossom makeup, which was said to be related to Shangguan Waner.

Duan, a scholar in the late Tang Dynasty, recorded in Youyang Miscellanies: "The flower of women's face decoration today originated in Shangguan and was made to hide people's traces."

Nowadays, women in the palace all use "plum blossom" makeup, which originated from Shangguan Waner and was intended to cover up the scars on their faces.

Duan's son and Xiucai's section of the highway are recorded in more detail in the "Beifu Zhi": "After the Queen's Day, every pair of butchers let them lie under their skirts and write down what they said."

When Wu Zetian played against the minister, she ordered Shangguan Waner to hide in several aprons and record the correct content.

One day, Tang Gaozong and Prime Minister Li Jiongxiu discussed things. Li Jiongxiu is a famous male god. He is very attractive and admired by Shangguan Waner for a long time, so he can't help spying on Li Jiong-xiu.

Tang Gaozong saw it. "He was very angry. He took an armor knife and stuck it in the surface. He is not allowed to pull it out. "

Stabbed Shangguan Waner in the face with a nail knife, but was not allowed to pull it out.

This event is very likely to become real history. Chen Zangqi, who was in the same era as Shangguan Waner, recorded in Materia Medica: "When I retired from the DPRK, Zhao Rong drew his sword for begging. After that, it was Hanako who covered up the traces. "

After the emperor retired from the DPRK, Shangguan Waner wrote a poem "Begging for a Sword", and later stabbed the scar into the shape of a plum blossom to cover up the facial scar.

There is another version of Shangguan Waner's thorn. According to the Secret of Crane Control, Wu Zetian regarded Shangguan Waner as a confidant and made out with Zhang Changzong, the head of the family, and did not shy away from Shangguan Waner.

In the long run, Shangguan Waner hooked up with Zhang Changzong.

One day, they got entangled and were discovered by Wu Zetian.

The queen was furious, pulled out a golden knife and stabbed Shangguan Waner on the left side of his forehead. She angrily said, "You should be put to death if you dare to come near my preserve!"

Zhang Changzong knelt down to plead for Shangguan Waner, and the Queen spared Shangguan Waner.

Shangguan Waner stabbed a plum blossom on the scar, which made her more charming.

So the women in the palace rushed to follow suit, and plum blossom makeup led the fashion for a while.

By the way, Li Jiong-xiu, the dream lover of Shangguan Waner, later married his wife. His wife laughed at his mother for being a handmaiden, and Li Jiong-xiu drove her back to her family in a rage.

Later, Li Jiongxiu was attracted by Zhang Yizhi's mother. With the help of the emperor, they scored twice.

This became the regret of Shangguan Waner's life.
