Take the habit of using mobile phones as an example. Since iPhone X opened the era of facial recognition, people's dependence on facial unlocking is very high. But now because the face is masked, unlocking will be more inclined to fingerprints. The sensitivity of fingerprint unlocking has become a topic of concern to users.

Today, the object of our test is iQOO 8 Pro released not long ago. In unlocking, ultrasonic 3D wide-area fingerprint based on the second generation sensor technology of Qualcomm 3D Sonic is adopted. IQOO said that the new fingerprint module has improved in fingerprint identification, input, security and convenience. So, what is its real use? We found the previous generation iQOO 7 for comparison.

Principle comparison: What is the difference in the unlocking principle of iQOO 8 Pro?

There are two fingerprint unlocking schemes in the era of full screen, optical fingerprint and ultrasonic fingerprint. At present, optical fingerprint is the mainstream, with low cost and mature technology, which is adopted by most mobile phones. IQOO 7 belongs to this camp. IQOO 8 Pro belongs to another camp, with high implantation cost and high technical requirements. Only some models of Samsung and Meizu have adopted this scheme, and iQOO is one of the few manufacturers to follow up.

The principles of the two schemes are shown in the above figure, and the schemes themselves are qualitatively different.

Optical fingerprint collection fingerprint loop relies on light reflection, and identification is to compare the collected fingerprint information after pressing it again, and unlock it if the information is consistent.

The advantages of this scheme are simple principle, few peripheral circuits, mature technology and low cost.

Disadvantages of this scheme: ① The off-screen fingerprint of the full screen is only mature on the organic light-emitting diode screen, which limits the types of screens (PS: because of the existence of backlight, the module of LCD screen is very thick and the recognition rate is low, so there are only conceptual products, which is the fundamental reason why many LCD screens are equipped with side fingerprints); 2② The OLED screen is bound to age, and the recognition rate will decrease with the increase of the service life of the mobile phone; Theoretically, it will be disturbed by light and stains.

The principle of optical fingerprint is similar to that of B-ultrasound. When collecting fingerprint information, ultrasonic waves are emitted to the finger surface through the sensor, and 3D images are constructed by using the difference of skin and air density on the fingerprint surface. After receiving the ultrasonic echo information, the sensor compares the fingerprint information to realize fingerprint identification.

The advantages of this scheme are: strong penetration, little influence by light, and higher pollution resistance in theory.

The disadvantages of this scheme are high driving voltage, complex circuit, high process requirements and high cost.

Comparison of unlocking area: iQOO 8 Pro has a higher area, and the recognition area is not only a little larger.

IQOO 8 Pro adopts ultrasonic 3D wide-area fingerprint, so the fingerprint identification area is wider.

Observing the above figure, we can find that the fingerprint recognition area of iQOO 8 Pro is a whole circle larger than that of iQOO 7.

In addition, the locations of the two mobile phones are slightly different. IQOO 8 Pro has a higher positioning. When unlocking with one hand, it is not necessary to deliberately hold the lower part of the mobile phone or deliberately adjust the posture center of gravity to move down, which is more friendly to small users.

By the way, the fingerprint icon style of iQOO 8 Pro can be changed (setting path: setting fingerprint face and password fingerprint icon style). It has two shapes, rectangular and round, and has a large area.

Input comparison: iQOO 8 Pro input process is simpler, and all information is collected after 1 press.

Our testers hold iQOO 8 Pro in their left hand and iQOO 7 in their right hand. Both hands input fingerprint information at the same time, and the photographer records the whole process.

IQOO 8 Pro completed the fingerprint entry with only 1 press, while iQOO 7 experienced two rounds of N presses. In addition, in the process of pressing iQOO 7, if the angle is wrong, the system will also prompt the user to move his finger and press it again. In contrast, iQOO 8 Pro is more convenient to get started.

Comparison of unlocking efficiency: Under normal circumstances, there is no obvious difference.

I still hold iQOO 8 Pro in my left hand and iQOO 7 in my right hand, and both hands are unlocked at the same time.

Theoretically, iQOO 8 Pro will be unlocked faster by ultrasonic fingerprint, but in actual test, under normal circumstances, the unlocking speed of the two mobile phones is almost the same, and there is no obvious difference.

IQOO 8 Pro has a wide fingerprint recognition area, and many people pay attention to the recognition sensitivity of edge areas. We specially changed the fingerprint icon style to a rectangle to test the unlocking sensitivity of the four corners, so that the unlocking speed is faster, and there is no difference between unlocking in the central area and unlocking in the corner area.

Comparison of pollution resistance: iQOO 8 Pro is slightly better.

One of the reasons for the rise of facial recognition is that it is inconvenient to use fingerprints in some scenes. For example, when there is water or stains on your hands, the accuracy and speed of unlocking will be greatly reduced. Can iQOO 8 Pro with ultrasonic fingerprint make significant progress in the face of foreign bodies? We found water, vegetable oil and honey for testing.

Water pressure test ※

When the finger is dipped in clean tap water, iQOO 7 in the right hand first senses it, but iQOO 8 Pro's unlocking animation loads faster, so the unlocking time is almost synchronous. After many tests, the situation is the same. After checking the settings, there is no option to unlock the animation faster, indicating that it is either a problem with the settings of the mobile phone system or a problem with faster loading.

There is a lot of clean tap water on your fingers: pressing both phones for the first time failed; After the finger is suspended, press it for the second time. Because of the lack of water on the finger, iQOO 8 Pro unlocked successfully, but iQOO 7 still failed. Press for the third time, iQOO 7 succeeded. After many tests, the results are similar. IQOO 7 needs to be pressed once or twice to unlock successfully.

Generally speaking, the amount of water is positively related to the success rate of fingerprint identification. Relatively speaking, iQOO 8 Pro is less disturbed.

Test with vegetable oil. ※

Both phones can be successfully unlocked after their fingers are stained with vegetable oil, but iQOO 8 Pro is faster than iQOO 7 regardless of the amount of vegetable oil.

Test with honey. ※

With a little honey on your finger, both phones can be successfully unlocked. In contrast, iQOO 8 Pro is faster from response to completion of unlocking.

With a lot of honey on my fingers, neither phone can be unlocked, and even the screen won't light up. We tried to change the amount of honey properly and summed up a rule that as long as the honey on the surface can't be squeezed out by the finger, it can't be unlocked successfully. This shows that honey, a liquid with high density and consistency, has great interference with ultrasonic sensors and optical fingerprint sensors.

Overall, iQOO 8 Pro is superior in pollution resistance.

Because iQOO 8 Pro has a wider fingerprint recognition area, it can be operated quickly by adding a function that fits the life scene.

Through the setting of quick start (setting path: setting fingerprint, face and password fingerprint for quick start), you can add two icons to the unlocking interface, press and hold the corresponding icons with your fingers, and perform corresponding operations while unlocking.

At present, iQOO 8 Pro provides six quick functions, namely scanning interface of two payment softwares, payment code interface of two payment softwares and boarding code interface of two payment softwares. The six functions are extremely practical.

From the consumer's point of view, I hope that a button to quickly start the health code can be added in the future system update. In daily life, health codes are also checked very frequently.

Although the unlocking concept of ultrasonic fingerprint is more advanced, the off-screen optical fingerprint has developed for so many years, and the technology is still relatively mature.

The advantages of iQOO 8 Pro are faster input, more convenient unlocking with one hand (larger area, higher position), stronger anti-stain interference ability, and expanded functions fit the consumption habits, which is very helpful for ordinary users.

It should be emphasized that stronger anti-stain interference ability does not mean that it will be unlocked in the face of stains. After all, we overturned when testing with honey. Stronger is only a relative conclusion, aiming at the scheme of optical fingerprint. As far as daily life is concerned, this promotion brought by iQOO 8 Pro is enough, because under normal circumstances, we don't touch a pile of sticky liquid to unlock a mobile phone.
