Baoguo Temple (Leshan) is a famous tourist destination in Leshan’s cultural landscape.

Baoguo Temple is located at the foothills of Mount Emei. It is the first temple at the foot of the mountain, the gateway to the mountain of Emei, the center of Buddhist activities in Mount Emei, and also the center of Buddhist activities for tourists. (The individual tourist bus station is at Baoguo Temple nearby) or a must-see for hiking and hiking. Leaving Baoguo Temple, there are two mountain roads to the left and right. Baoguo Temple was founded during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the eight famous temples in the mountain. The main hall of the temple was originally dedicated to representatives of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. It was once named "Huizong Hall" and has "Three Religions". "Church" means. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty took the Buddhist meaning of "repaying the kindness of the country's master" and changed its name to Baoguo Temple. The temple gate faces west to east. The pair of stones in front of the mountain gate were carved in the Ming Dynasty. The plaque "Baoguo Temple" on the mountain gate was inscribed by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. This temple was once the place of the "Three Churches", and some of the couplets still show some Taoist charm, such as "I only think about the Tao, and I follow the scriptures". The whole temple covers an area of ??nearly 40,000 square meters and is large in scale. There are four main halls in the temple, all of which were built during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. From front to back, they are the Maitreya Hall, the Daxiong Hall, the Seven Buddha Hall, and the Sutra Library. The building is built along the mountain, with successively higher levels, and has a typical Sichuan courtyard-style residential style.

The garden in Baoguo Temple is quiet and the guest rooms are clean and available for tourists to stay. The Buddhist vegetarian meals in the temple have a unique flavor and can be described as one of the rare healthy foods nowadays. Visitors to Baoguo Temple should not miss the opportunity to admire the couplets and plaques. The couplets in the temple are very windy. There is also a handwriting left by Mr. Chiang Kai-shek in 1935 on a wall in the Seven Buddha Hall: "Serve the country with loyalty and loyalty." Next to it is the guest room, which also has a very elegant name: "Daiyue Mountain Room". On the hill directly opposite the temple gate is a lotus bronze bell cast in the Ming Dynasty. The "Shengji Evening Bell", one of the "Ten Scenic Spots of Emei", refers to this bell. This clock is 2.8 meters high, 2.4 meters in diameter, and weighs 12,500 kilograms. It is known as the "King of Bells in Tianfu". There are 61,600 characters cast on the bell body, including the Agama Sutra and other Buddhist stanzas, inscriptions, and commentaries, as well as the names of emperors and eminent monks from the Jin and Tang dynasties.

Shengji Evening Bell

When you arrive at Baoguo Temple, don’t forget to take a look at the "Shengji Evening Bell" on the Phoenix Fort in front of the temple. The layout of the "Shengji Evening Bell" pavilion is in the shape of the character '人' standing in groups, telling everyone that Renshan is the center of historical activities. The pavilion is a wooden double-eaves attic. It is displayed in front of people's eyes with an ancient and novel architectural image. The green tiles and red eaves are deeply hidden in the forest of cypress trees. The tall brake pole marks the top of the forest. . The periphery of the pavilion is decorated with vermilion "Zuiyang Fei" chair backs, and a white marble banner with the four characters "Shengji Evening Bell" is a traditional book from Wei, the former dean of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Art Academy. Cangnan, cypress, camphor and ancient banyan are mixed together to form a forest, and the forest of steles is composed of more than 100 steles including Qin seal script, Han official script and Tang Kai script. There is a huge copper bell hanging in the pavilion. This bell was originally in the Shengji Temple in the south of Emei City, so it is called the "Shengji Bronze Bell", also known as the "Shengji Evening Bell". Shengji Temple was founded at the end of the 14th century AD. The eminent monks Zongbao, Dongming and Jianden successively visited Zhuoxi Temple and became famous far and wide. In 1535 AD, Hu selected a monk from Opposite Meng (in today's Anlu County, Hubei Province) to worship Zongbao as his teacher, and vowed to raise a bronze bell to dedicate to the Ashan Buddha Land. In 1564 AD, three bronze bells were built in Jiangyang, Sichuan (today's Fushun and Luzhou areas) and other places, one for Baishui Temple (today's Wannian Temple) and one for Yongyan Temple (today's Xianfeng Temple). The largest one was built in the following year It was transported to the Hongxi Bridge in the east of Emei City, and the names of the four disciples were engraved to express their merits. In 1567 AD, it was hung in the Zhenjing Tower of Shengji Temple. The Zhongtong is 2.6 meters high, has an abdominal diameter of 2.2 meters, a lip thickness of 20 centimeters, and weighs 25,000 kilograms. It is known as the "Bell King of Bashu".
