Dialogue with the Master (1) Me and Teacher Wu Jialin.
On the way, we discussed the trend of contemporary photography in China. According to some current photography problems, I put forward the problem of quick success and instant benefit in contemporary photography. The people in the car are all tycoons in the industry. The question raised by a little boy of mine actually caused the whole car to scream. We analyzed the problems from three aspects: portrait photography, documentary photography and landscape photography. Finally, the discussion focuses on documentary photography. A teacher said, "Contemporary documentary photography should be promoted by Wu Jialin, a local photographer in Zhaotong, Yunnan." They discussed Wu Jialin's Yunnan Mountain Man. I was just listening.
This is the first time I have heard the name Wu Jialin. After arriving at the train station, I searched for "Wu Jialin" on the train to Chengdu.

On the train, I read his information and his works. Black-and-white photos record the bits and pieces of ordinary days, including cats and old ladies, as well as the uncle who sells birdcages ... If you want to use all the light to evaluate his works, it is really impossible to evaluate them, because his works are not about light and shadow, but about ordinary days and record the daily life of ordinary people in China.
After staying in Chengdu for many days, I saw that many of Mr. Wu Jialin's works were also shot in Chengdu, and I suddenly felt a sense of pride when I thought that he was from Zhaotong, Yunnan. The distance from the master is so close. Looking forward to a face-to-face conversation with Mr. Wu Jialin.
Back in Kunming, it was the end of August, and I saw the news shared by photographers in WeChat group that Wu Jialin was invited to give a lecture at the New World Nikon Carnival. I dropped all the arrangements and signed up for this lecture.
On the day of the lecture, I came to the venue early to wait. I don't know who said, "Teacher Wu is here."
I followed the sound and found a bald man wearing a plaid shirt coming in from the door. Very ordinary, he worked with a cultivator all day to get ready for a rest. There is no assistant to follow around, and there is no feeling that a great god has fallen from the sky. If you don't see it in the photo and the on-site staff introduces it, it's hard to know that this is an internationally renowned master.
It took Wu Jialin more than ten minutes to walk from the door to the podium.
He is shaking hands with everyone present at the meeting and taking photos to greet him. There is no master's shelf at all The audience below is like his long-lost old friend. Everyone should greet them seriously.
This time, Mr Wu Jialin is talking about capturing and posing in documentary photography. At the same time, he also shared her photography experience with us. He said that it is a process from posing to snapping. New photographers often use posing to make their own content meet the requirements of the author, but it is of little significance, and the scene is easy to copy and cannot become a classic.
As for snapshots, many things are fleeting, and snapshots can remain eternal and become classics.
He said that photography lies not in the equipment, but in the brain behind the lens and a pair of eyes that discover beauty.
At the meeting, he commented on the photos of everyone who attended the lecture and pointed out the advantages and disadvantages of the photos.
In my photo review of Sunset in Dianchi Lake, he said that I know Dianchi Lake and know when the sunset in Dianchi Lake is the most beautiful, and the composition is good, which can organically combine the fishing boat pier with the sunset. The fly in the ointment is that the lens is not a wide-angle lens, and only a part of the scene is taken, which cannot show the magnificent scenery of the sunset in Dianchi Lake.
When he learned that I was studying medicine, he said that he saw the power of the new generation. I think this is his best compliment to me.
Finally, he also warned young photographers that learning photography should have a calm heart and never be impatient.
In the afternoon, after the speech, I took a photo with Mr. Wu Jialin, who left with the organizer. I also went back to Guandu.
There is only one time in your life, and a conversation will benefit you for life.
