The Shanghai Film Academy of Shanghai University was established on July 5, 2015. Its predecessor was the School of Film and Television Art and Technology of Shanghai University. The current dean is the famous director Chen Kaige, and the executive dean is Professor He Xiaoqing.

Shanghai Film Academy currently has four departments: Film and Television Arts, Journalism and Communication, Film and Television Engineering, and Advertising, as well as a Television Production Department and a Film and Television Experiment Center.
