A nearly perfect specimen (provided by Dale Omori, Cleveland Museum of Natural History) 3.8 million years ago, a nearly complete Australopithecus Anamenz skull was unearthed in Ethiopia.

This new skull specimen, called "MRD", enables anthropologists to associate a face with relatives of the iconic "Lucy" species.

The photo was taken by Dr. Johannes Haile Selassie of the ancient delta. Provided by Cleveland Museum of Natural History. This skull fossil was found in an ancient delta of Godaya Valley in Afar region of Ethiopia. Fossils are buried in the sand.

The face of Australopithecus afarensis is is very similar to Lucy's face, but there are some key differences.

Primitive man's face is not as thick as Lucy's, but its teeth are bigger than Avalon's. MRD has a prominent jaw, which is different from the relatively flat face of modern apes.
