From "seeing" to "insight", let picture books become reading AIDS.
Picture books are rich and varied in image presentation, text presentation and theme presentation, which are not limited to children's reading and can meet the learning needs of readers of all ages. Therefore, picture books are also called "reading materials for 0 to 99 years old".
Before attending the workshop of Lin Meiqin, a famous reading expert in Taiwan Province Province, I realized that my knowledge of picture books was very simple. I first came into contact with the word reading ability in teacher Lin's workshop. Teacher Lin's simple analysis of picture books makes us truly realize the magic and charm of picture books.
How to arouse the interest in reading from picture books and establish the concept of reading ability has greatly influenced me. Reading ability is not the same as literacy ability, but also includes the ability to read texts, and then you can grab information, interpret and interpret it, and then develop your own views.
Reading needs guidance. Only by learning to read can we learn in reading. Picture books are the help of children's reading enlightenment.
How to read picture books in the end is mainly from two aspects, one is to find a sense of picture, and the other is to find a sense of language.
From "Image" to "Graphic Sense"
Reading picture books first reads images, which are combined into pictures to convey certain emotions, atmosphere and feelings. If we can perceive the information, we can cultivate a "sense of picture", let the brain feel, imagine and think through the sense of touch, call up relevant meanings, images and memories in the brain to react, influence emotions and receive rich information conveyed by images.
On how to cultivate a sense of pictures, this paper mainly summarizes several elements summarized by Mr. Lin in the book What's Great about Picture Books, and combines his own experience in reading picture books to help him understand.
First of all, lines
In picture books, lines outline the scenery and shape the scenery and people, or create texture and light and shade with density; Or through thickness, rigidity, inclination, discontinuity or continuity, confusion or neatness, rising or sagging, etc. Create a dynamic and static atmosphere of the scene, describe the body movements and expression language of the role, and convey the emotions and feelings of the role; Or create a sense of movement through several lines to drive the tension of the picture.
Taking Duck Riding as an example, the ground on the first page is horizontal, which conveys the quiet atmosphere of the farm and indicates the beginning of the story. Everything is calm, in sharp contrast to the lively scene of animals on the farm behind.
The ground lines constructed by the casual arc in the above picture convey the jumping action, which makes us feel the relaxed mood of ducks, indicating that the skills of riding ducks have become more and more skilled from the initial clumsiness.
systems modelling
Modeling is a shape outlined by lines, and the creator of picture books conveys the character and life state of the characters through different types and postures.
The animals in Duck on a Bicycle have unique and distinctive shapes, which vividly shape their personalities and psychological states.
First, let's look at the shape of the duck. The duck's head held high, and the rising posture made people feel the duck's self-confidence psychology.
Let's look at the modeling of dogs on this page. The dog is running with the duck's bike, and its tail is stuck high, which makes people think that dogs and other animals are different in laughing at ducks. I really admire the courage of ducks, and let us truly appreciate the loyalty and kindness of dogs.
The shape of the hen on this page is also very bright. The flapping wings of the hen, the pointed claws raised high, the open mouth and the fleeing posture make the hen's psychology vivid.
composition
Composition in a picture book refers to the layout of the picture by the creator, including the position of the protagonist, supporting roles, various animals in the picture, moving lines, perspective, mirror movement and proportion, so as to create a spatial scene and show the interactive relationship of the roles in the overall situation.
By understanding the composition, understanding the layout of the creator and exploring the relationship between the role and the space, we can further feel the situation of the role in the environment and the subtle interaction or emotional correspondence between the roles.
Riding a Duck highlights the arrogance of the horse and his contempt for the duck through the arrangement of the position of the horse above and the duck below.
The duck in this picture is on the top and the mouse is on the bottom, which shows the psychological state that the duck is full of confidence and the mouse is inferior.
In the above picture, a large group of children are riding bicycles on the road, which promotes the development of the story through the directionality of the moving line, suggesting that the story is about to reverse, paving the way for the psychological changes of the animals behind and the cheerful scene of animals riding bicycles in the barn open space.
Fourth, the perspective.
Perspective, that is, perspective. In addition to the horizontal perspective, picture book creators will also use composition changes such as low pilots and high perspectives to present various perspectives. Through the change of different perspectives, more diverse and rich thinking is aroused.
For example, in the picture above, the duck drags his chin and looks up at the huge bicycle in front of him, which highlights the weakness of the duck and makes readers sweat for the crazy idea that the duck bet that he can ride a bicycle.
Looking at this picture again, in sharp contrast, the image of the duck has become unusually tall. Look at the way the duck puts his hands behind his back and his proud eyes. The bicycle becomes smaller behind him, forming a foil, which makes you feel the satisfaction and joy of the duck after successfully driving the bicycle.
proportion
In the expression of image, it is also a way for the creator to express his intention by arranging the size ratio between characters or between characters and the environment.
Through the different proportions, we can produce two completely different momentum, namely, the inferiority and heroism of the role, to express the relationship between the protagonist and the supporting role, or to show their different status and the strength of the situation.
Or take "riding a duck" as an example. This page only shows a small figure of a duck riding through different spaces. The proportion of cats occupies the whole picture, and the cats in the picture close their eyes. "I won't waste time riding a bike!" "The image of a lazy cat is vivid on the paper, and the back of the duck leaving also depicts the duck's disdain for the lazy cat.
colour
The color of an image can express the texture, light and shade, thickness, etc. of an object, and affect readers' feelings and emotions.
Take Good Night, Moon as an example. The picture of the book is matched with three primary colors of red, green and Huang San, and black and white pages are interspersed. Through the change of hue, lightness and chroma, a warm, romantic, quiet and serene picture is outlined for us, which has a magic power to lead people to the edge of sleep.
In the big green room, there is a telephone, A Le Baron Rouge and two photos.
Green wall and quilt, red floor, bed and balloon, yellow photo frame, desk lamp and table. At the beginning of the story, the color and light of the room make everything look so bright.
The next second spread into black and white, which is the author's creative technique. One page is colored, the other is black and white, alternating in turn. The picture changes from bright color to gray, giving people a sense of visual impact.
In the next page, careful readers can find that the next color page is still in the same room, but the color is dim. When I slowly said good night to everything in the room, the next color page, red, green and yellow, obviously increased the gray level. Finally, the bright color of the first color page no longer exists and becomes opaque and dim.
Through this change of lightness and chroma, readers can feel that time is gradually passing, and the night is getting quieter and quieter, which makes readers feel the quietness, stability and serenity of the night and gives people an impulse to fall asleep at once.
sign
Symbol refers to the way to express a special meaning through concrete things. When an image is associated with a certain culture or life experience, it is given a specific meaning, which echoes the development of content and becomes a symbol to convey meaning, that is, a symbol.
Anthony browne's My Dad, which we are familiar with, runs through the whole text with my father's brown plaid robe as a clue, symbolizing the deep fatherly love.
give exact information
Many picture books will arrange some details, and these subtle presentations are quietly placed in the picture; Some are hidden in a page of the book, and some are hidden in every page.
For example, Good Night, Moon, every colorful page can find a little mouse hiding in an inconspicuous corner. Similarly, in the picture of Good Night Gorilla, there is a cute little mouse dragging a banana, which appears on almost every page.
The details in pictures are often overlooked by adults, but children are very observant. Through such careful observation, children's concentration can be cultivated.
From "Picture Sense" to "Language Sense"
Words are another source of information for picture books. Images vividly convey visual feelings, while words can describe the scenes in images delicately.
If we can cultivate the ability of "graphic sense" by reading picture books, and then introduce the profound experience of words, pave the way for cultivating "language sense" and receive the rich meanings of words, we will have a deeper understanding of reading.
Only by developing the mental method from "seeing" to "understanding" can we fully enjoy the imagination and thinking in the process of reading, and then enjoy the pleasure of reading.
