Why is Nie Yinniang a masterpiece once in decades?

Hou Xiaoxian's Nie Yinniang the Assassin kept fans waiting for a long time.

According to Hou Dao's own disclosure, this film is also the one that he has to be interviewed and answer the most questions before it is released.

It was only shown a few times in advance, and the audience who saw it thought that Nie Yinniang was a masterpiece once in decades, and it was a work of art. At the same time, professional filmmakers and novelists like Zhang admitted that the film needed to be seen several times before it could be understood.

So, what are all your questions?

At the Tencent Film Salon "Ask Nie Yinniang" held recently, the director, screenwriter and Taiwanese novelist Zhang He had a three-hour conversation about the film.

What did Hou Xiaoxian say?

1. Why did you shoot the assassin Nie Yinniang?

I like Tang Dynasty novels very much. A few years ago, I asked a mainland scholar to write notes about Nie Yinniang. There are three books in all, and the content is very enjoyable. Seeing other films, I also know the living conditions in the Tang Dynasty, so I think I have to shoot them sooner or later.

Well, take this opportunity to shoot, whatever.

China Continental Yindu Film Company, which just celebrated its 60th anniversary, is going to make some films. Shoot "The Grandmaster" first, and then contact me.

This film will cost a lot of money and will soon be found all over the world. Although I haven't made a film for eight years, there is a market in Europe, and I can sell it after the talk.

2. What does the assassin Nie Yinniang want to convey?

I often look in the mirror and like to look in the mirror.

A director's film is definitely the director's own reflection, just like a person in the mirror, you can't escape or hide.

I don't expect to convey anything. Actually, my purpose is not to convey anything. I find it very enjoyable to make this film. I really like the role of Nie Yinniang. After my creation, I am actually explaining my love and admiration for this role, and I like such a person. So it will definitely be adjusted to be different from the novel, and it feels ok.

3. The classic scene of Nie Yinniang the Assassin, the secret of shooting the veil.

The basic way of our scene is that the interior is set outdoors, not in the studio, which requires a lot of lights to make it look like the outdoor, and we all shoot it outdoors.

About how the room should face the sun, and then when I came to the whole Tang Dynasty, there was an article about sericulture and sericulture in the novel. All these silk products were bought in India. Handmade, a part of Korea, everything is silk products.

This faint light is already very touching and beautiful. I hung a lot of curtains and gauze with the assistant director, adjusted the approximate presentation position and the best angle of the actor's lens, and then started lighting.

Because the location has been set, the lighting is basically available, but it is actually a supplement. If the actors are not clear enough or something, there is usually not much lighting. Otherwise, it is semi-dark, and it needs to imitate natural light, like the color temperature of normal light.

Two cameras, one scene and one mirror. Orbital motion, the orbit completely regards itself as a part of it, and everything it hears and feels will move. These are all arranged. We should move, not follow the sound. Let's talk here.

All the shots are shot with film, and there is no post-production.

All the shots of Nie Yinniang are filmed, and the light, scenery and color are real shots, with no post-production.

Isn't it beautiful?

I like the standard format. Now many people will rely on it in the later stage of filming. I can't help it I like this scene.

5. Talking about the concept of film: I took a realistic photo.

But after all, imagination alone is not enough. It's hard to be real, powerful and well equipped, so I shot it very realistically, basically without leaving gravity, so I shot it.

I thought I had to wait for the clouds for a long time, but I didn't expect the clouds to come in waves in Wudang Mountain.

Later, Tang Nuo looked at the photos taken back and said that the landscape of China was not freehand brushwork, but realistic.

6, "Nie Yinniang" is what film, don't need experience to judge.

Nothing is inevitable, but it is very important that we can stick to what we want to do. It makes sense to do so. Through yourself, you have no regrets, and it is ok to pursue this thing. Whatever comments you have, it has nothing to do with me.

Watch it a few times, really. Don't think about what this movie is. It's not necessary.

It's like suddenly coming in, sitting there watching, just watching, not judging, not judging by experience, not needing, just watching.
