What is industrial photography and how to shoot it?

Indoor industrial photography, mainly photography in the workshop. It is mainly composed of machinery and equipment, scientific research, products, technological processes and their owners-technicians and workers. Therefore, it is the basic premise to be familiar with the basic situation of various workshops, study the characteristics and laws of industrial production in different industries, and understand and master the basic techniques and skills of workshop photography. Although the technical requirements of indoor industrial photography are high and difficult, it can not be mastered at once, but with the passage of time, the accumulation of experience and the continuous improvement of photographic technical skills, it will be successful.

First, the characteristics of indoor industrial photography in dark light are relative to outdoor photography. Under the outdoor sunlight, there is almost no difference in brightness everywhere, even on cloudy days, there is not much difference in light everywhere. The workshop is very different. There is basically no direct sunlight here, mainly scattered light, and the brightness is much lower and darker than outdoor. Even the brighter workshop is at least ten times worse than outdoor light.

Second, the situation of workshops with great differences cannot be generalized, and it can only be aimed at the specific situation of a workshop. Every workshop is different. They are not only different in size, height, old and new, but also different in shape, position and direction, which can have a certain impact on photography.

Due to the different nature of industrial production and the performance of machinery and equipment, the architectural structure of workshops is very different, which leads to complex lighting conditions and great difficulty in photographic exposure and color balance of color films.

Third, exposure is the key. In outdoor photography, beautiful composition, unique use of light and timely capture are the key concerns and efforts of photographers. As for exposure, it is not the main contradiction. When shooting in the workshop, the situation is different. Composition and lighting are very important, but accurate exposure or other things become the key to success. In the photos taken in the workshop, the composition light and the mood of the characters are good, but it is not uncommon for the shooting to fail due to incorrect exposure.

Fourth, the choice angle is limited. It goes without saying that there is no broad vision and space in the workshop. Machinery and equipment are generally dense, and the area and space are fully utilized. Some machines and equipment are even close to the wall. There is little room for manoeuvre, which brings some difficulties to the choice of shooting angle. Even in a large workshop, the shooting angle can only be chosen on the side with a large span, because the side with a small span can't take photos of the scene (except shooting local scenery or people's activities). In addition, there are too many columns in some workshops, which is not conducive to the choice of shooting angle. Even in this case, the workshop is full of large-scale equipment, and no matter how carefully selected, the right angle can be found.

Five, lines are mostly due to the relationship between the building structure. From the aesthetic point of view, the workshop is a combination of various lines and graphics. Some lines and characters are vigorous and powerful, while others are more beautiful and moving. However, in some poorly managed or old workshops, there are sometimes messy lines or graphics on the roof, wall and ground, which are intertwined without any connection. Being in such an environment will make people feel bored. Therefore, how to deal with the relationship between the subject and various lines and figures is one of the important topics that should be seriously considered in indoor photography composition.

In a word, compared with other industrial photography, indoor industrial photography is much more complicated in technical skills and needs solid basic skills. Below, we will analyze and study the problems encountered in indoor industrial photography and the corresponding shooting methods one by one.
