How to clean SLR lens

Cleaning and maintenance skills of SLR lens

1, install the ultraviolet mirror:

In order to protect the lens, you usually buy a UV mirror (installed outside the lens of the lens) when you buy the lens. UV mirrors can protect our lenses from dust pollution, and some UV mirrors are also helpful for shooting (such as nd mirrors).

2. Install the engine hood:

In addition to installing a UV mirror, a hood is usually installed in addition to the lens. The hood can not only prevent the lens from bringing in too much light and ultraviolet rays when shooting, but also provide buffer when the lens falls and protect the lens from too much impact.

3. Cover the lens cover:

When the lens is not used at ordinary times, it is best to cover it or put it in the camera bag. Although it is protected by UV mirror, it will be dirty, so please cover the lens honestly.

4, pay attention to the use of matters:

Never touch the mirror, image sensor and any other parts of the camera with your hands. Handle the camera carefully and get into the good habit of hanging it around your neck. After shooting, carefully wipe the dust on the camera surface with a soft and clean cloth in time. Please turn off the power switch when inserting or removing the memory card. Check the pin holes or contacts of the memory card regularly for foreign objects.

5. Clean the lens regularly:

The maintenance of lenses is carried out according to the principle of blowing, wiping, washing and protecting, that is, keeping the lenses clean at any time. If it gets dirty accidentally, please clean the dust with a blowing brush/balloon first, and then gently wipe it with a soft and clean cloth. If it is not clean, you can gently wipe it with lens paper dipped in a little lens cleaning solution. If there is dust in the camera, please do not disassemble it yourself. Please send it to a professional shop for repair.

6, reduce the number of lens fall off:

Minimize the number of times you take off your lenses. When changing lenses, it's easy to get dirty things into the camera. When replacing the lens, be sure to turn off the power of the camera and avoid strong light and dusty environment. It is best to replace it indoors or in the car, and try to avoid replacing it in the wild, with the bayonet of the fuselage facing down.

7. Pay attention to the placement environment:

SLR cameras should not be stored in hot and humid places. Try to store it in a dry and ventilated place or a drying box, or put some desiccant in the camera bag to keep the humidity in the box at 35%-40%. Don't put the camera in the trunk of the car at ordinary times to prevent the camera from being damaged by low temperature or high temperature. If you need to shoot in rain and snow, please be waterproof and try not to shoot in desert and other areas.

If the lens is taken from a cold environment to a warm environment, condensation may occur on the surface and internal parts of the lens. In order to prevent condensation in this case, you can first put the lens in a sealed plastic bag and take it out after it gets warm. On the contrary, please use the same method. Of course, a good quality camera bag is a good idea.

Cleaning and storage tools for SLR equipment

The most commonly used storage tools for SLR equipment include moistureproof box and camera bag. The commonly used cleaning tools are ear-blowing ball, wool pen, lens paper, suede, special lens cleaning liquid, cotton gloves and mirror cleaning cloth.

Moistureproof box:

Various dehumidification technologies are adopted to effectively reduce the humidity in the cabinet, and achieve the purposes of moisture-proof, mildew-proof, oxidation-proof, rust-proof and micro-moisture absorption. In the space that can ensure air tightness, dehumidification and dehumidification technology that can effectively reduce the original moisture in a specific volume space are adopted to achieve moisture-proof, mildew-proof, oxidation-proof, rust-proof and deterioration-proof.

Moistureproof box can be divided into plastic moistureproof box and electronic moistureproof box.

Ear blowing ball:

Mainly used to blow off the dust and debris on the lens. This is the first step in cleaning the lens. You must first blow off the dust with an ear-blowing ball and then wipe it with lens paper, otherwise you will scratch the lens. This thing is sold in medical supplies stores, and it is very cheap and easy to use. It's best not to buy it in a photographic equipment store. It's expensive and impractical. Remember, don't blow with your mouth, or you will drool involuntarily when you look at your beloved camera. It's not good to blow at the camera, hehe.

Wool pen:

Used to deal with the stubborn dust on the lens or LCD surface, because the wool pen is very soft, it is more suitable for cleaning the lens, but don't think that it is soft and you can use too much force, but sweep it gently like sweeping your own eyes. This kind of thing can only be found in a photo shop. When you choose, you must find a very soft one without foreign objects, and you must never touch the end of the wool pen with your hands during use, otherwise the sweat on your hands will stick to the lens, which is very difficult to clean.

Lens paper:

This is the main weapon to scrub the lens. The correct way to use it is to gently roll the lens paper into a stick, and then break it hard. At this time, you will see that the paper fiber at the cross section will form like a brush, so it can be used to scrub the lens, but it is best to dip a little lens cleaning liquid before wiping. Because lens paper may lose a little paper fiber when it is used, don't worry, just brush it off with a wool pen after the lens cleaning solution is completely evaporated. This thing can only be bought in photographic equipment stores. You must buy a good one. The inferior lens paper fiber is too hard and may contain many impurities, which is easy to damage the lens.

There are two points to pay attention to when using lens paper. First, the movement should be gentle, and slowly rub from the center of the lens to the outer circle in a spiral shape. After wiping, check it. If it is not cleaned, it must be scrubbed with another piece of paper, otherwise the dust on the paper will pollute the lens again. Second, it should be noted that the lens cleaning liquid should not be too much, just wet the paper, otherwise too much lens liquid will flow into the lens along the gap of the lens.

Suede:

It won't lose fiber, and it's very soft. When in use, you can gently fold the lens and dip it in cleaning solution to scrub the lens. The operation method is the same as using lens paper, only a little more expensive, but it is really easy to use.

It is sold in the photographic equipment store. When choosing, choose the one with no impurities and very soft texture. Good quality suede should be natural skin yellow. If the color looks unnatural, it is mostly dyed for good looks. It's best not to use it, or the solvent in the lens cleaning solution will dissolve the dye, so you will unconsciously add a color filter in front of your lens, hehehehehe.

Lens cleaning solution:

In fact, the main component of lens cleaning solution is solvent, and its main function is to dissolve the organic matter on the lens, such as sweat stains, fingerprints or saliva. If not, you can actually do chemical experiments with anhydrous ethanol. Remember, if you want to use anhydrous ethanol, you must buy genuine products, and the analytical purity is above 99%, otherwise it will damage the lens.

Also, the use of this thing is limited to the lens or LCD screen. Not for the fuselage? Take a shower? Otherwise, the coating on the fuselage surface may be damaged. In addition, don't use too much, just a little, otherwise it will flow into the lens and affect its mechanical properties.

Mirror cleaning cloth:

This is a kind of pure cotton woven by special knitting technology, which is very soft and will not lose fibers, so it is most suitable for cleaning the fuselage, lens cover or LCD surface, but it is best not to use it to clean the lens, otherwise it may cause scratches. This thing is sold in photographic equipment stores and can also be bought in some shopping malls or supermarkets.

Hand-held vacuum cleaner:

If your city is dry, when using the ear-blowing ball and wool pen, it is best to put the whole operation process at the mouth of the vacuum cleaner, so that the cleaned dust can be directly sucked away and prevented from floating into the air again and falling on the lens.

Finally, remember that mildew is the biggest killer of SLR lenses. Once the mold invades the lens, this expensive lens can be considered as a premium. Spend a little money to protect a lot of money, and everyone will count!
