Can a mobile phone shoot the sun burn the lens?

Shooting the sun directly with a mobile phone won't damage the lens.

Mobile phone lenses are usually composed of several lenses, made of high-quality optical glass or plastic, and can withstand various light conditions.

When the light shines on the image sensor of the mobile phone through the lens, the sensor will convert the light signal into an electrical signal, and then generate a digital image. The lens does not directly process or amplify the light, but focuses the light on the sensor.

Modern mobile phone cameras have automatic exposure and autofocus functions. When aiming at the sun or other strong light sources, the camera will automatically adjust the exposure time and ISO parameters to prevent the image from overexposure.

Although shooting the sun directly won't damage the lens immediately, exposure of the mobile phone to strong sunlight for a long time may lead to other problems, such as the phone case getting hot, the battery performance decreasing and the screen being damaged.

If you are interested in photographing the sun or celestial bodies, it is recommended to use special telescopes and camera equipment and follow the relevant safety guidelines. These devices can capture images of the sun safely and protect the lens and sensor from damage.
