Born on March 31, Suoshi Township, Shimen County, Hunan Province[2].

Graduated from high school. Walked for 7 days to go to Chongqing to take the university entrance examination.

In 1944

Enrolled in the Design Department of the National Art College (originally located in Hangzhou) in Chongqing, where he studied under Lin Fengmian, Zao Wou-ki, Li Keran, Lei Kuiyuan, Chai Fei, and Deng Waiting in vain.

1945

Because he was busy with the relocation of the school, he took a year off from school.

On April 23, he ushered in the liberation of Nanjing amidst artillery fire, and joined the art group of the Nanjing Art Troupe to organize revolutionary performances and publicity.

On May 3, Hangzhou City was liberated.

In June, the Hangzhou Municipal Military Control Commission appointed Ni Yide, Liu Wei, Liu Ruli, and Wei Mengke as military representatives to take over the Hangzhou National Art College.

Received telegrams from Ni Yide and Liu Wei (Ni Yide’s wife) informing him to return to the school to teach. In November 1950,

Hangzhou National Art College was renamed East China Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

In 1951

In 1952

In the spring of 1953

1956

In May 1957,

composed the article "Some Suggestions on Arts and Crafts Enterprises" and published it in the 7th issue of "Arts and Crafts Newsletter", together with 35 other members of the academy. The teacher signs the end of the article together.

Published "On the Development Direction of Arts and Crafts - Arts and Crafts Letters" in the 7th issue of "Arts and Crafts Newsletter".

On May 20, the "Several Suggestions on the Arts and Crafts Industry" that was signed by the party was designated as "anti-party speech."

On June 30, "Arts and Crafts Newsletter" was forced to suspend publication after eight issues due to "anti-party remarks."

1958

On February 13, he and five other teachers from the college were designated as "extreme right elements" and were sent to work on a farm in the suburbs of Beijing.

He was transferred to the college library to engage in cataloging and purchasing of books and teaching materials. At this stage, he concentrated on personally collecting and sorting out a large number of precious arts and crafts classics, including: "Compilation of Yinghua" [3], "Japanese Pearlescent" [4], "Bronze Essence" and other precious arts and crafts albums. Participated in the acquisition of precious series and books such as "Four Series", "Four Preparations", "Collection of Series", "Collection of Ancient and Modern Books". At the same time, we also focus on collecting and other physical materials, which cover ceramics, dyeing and weaving, brocade, embroidery, carpets, wall hangings, epigraphy and stone rubbings, folk paper-cuts, woodblock New Year paintings, stamps, etc. from various periods from primitive society to modern times, and there are considerable A large number of Ming-style furniture, authentic calligraphy and paintings, and domestic and foreign folk crafts.

In 1959

1960

1963 to 1965

Participated in the “Four Clean-up” campaigns for rural socialist education in Changping, Beijing, Xingtai, Hebei, Kunshan, Jiangsu and other places organized by the college, eating and drinking together with local farmers Live and work together.

1970

The History of Chinese Dyeing and Weaving, co-authored with his wife Wu Shusheng, was published by Shanghai People's Publishing House.

The Department of Arts and Crafts History and Theory of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts was awarded the first doctoral program in the country for the history and theory of arts and crafts (later changed to art design). Tian Zibing and Wang Jiashu were appointed as the first batch (two people) Doctoral supervisor, and was rated as the first batch of doctoral supervisors in the theoretical direction of arts and crafts in China.

In 2001,

2002
