The cast and crew of Labyrinth of Hearts

The creative source of the film is a true story that happened in a village in Henan many years ago told by the producer's parents. It was they who gave the director the initial motivation to shoot the film.

Xin Yukun spent a year writing the script at home. The first impression that this real case gave the director was that the events in real life had twists and turns, and brought out the joys and sorrows of many ordinary people. It felt like the fate of a small person in the context of China's great era, which touched him.

The film went through two name changes. During the script stage, it was called "My Heart". When it was filmed and submitted for review, the title was changed to "The Funeral Coffin" because it was too heavy with other films. When it was about to be released, I felt that the name "The Coffin" was too unfamiliar. The director liked the Coen brothers very much. Their debut film was called "Blood Maze", but it was finally changed to "Maze of the Heart". The film uses shoulder-mounted photography and a single-camera lens that moves back and forth between different characters. Before filming, the director asked the lighting engineer and photographer to refer to the movies "A Separation" and "Winter's Bone". In terms of visual design, he also wanted that documentary feel. He hoped that the audience would feel like it was a documentary when watching it, but slowly discovered that there are so many A reversed story can have this sense of contrast.

The director used shoulder-mounted photography to shoot a very low-cost debut, because it is very fast to schedule, and this shooting method saves art costs. If you use a fixed camera position to shoot the picture, the audience will start to pay attention. Foregrounds and backgrounds other than the protagonist require money for art decoration. The director uses shoulder photography and rapid perspective changes, so the audience will always focus on the actors. On November 3, 2014, "Maze of the Heart" was screened at the Beijing Film Academy as an event of the 9th Chinese Youth Film Forum.

On September 7, 2015, "Maze of the Heart" released the "Clue Version" poster and officially announced the release date.

On September 14, 2015, "Heart Maze" released its first "Honorary Edition" production special.

Before the film is released, screenings will be held in major cities in China. At 7 pm on September 30, 2015, an advanced screening will be held at Zifeng Lumière in Nanjing.

On October 8, 2015, "Maze of the Heart" released the international version poster and final trailer.

The film set a box office record for a Chinese independent film in theaters with a box office of 4.35 million in its first weekend. As of November 25, 2015, the box office of "Maze of the Heart" has reached 10.38 million.
