The crying woman (English: The threping Woman, French: Femme en pleurs) is an oil painting created by Picasso in 1937. Picasso was fascinated by this theme at that time and repainted it many times in the same year. The present oil painting is the last and most exquisite one in this series, and it is now in the Tate Gallery in London, England.

This painting is regarded as a continuation of the theme of suffering in Picasso's epic "guernica", and Picasso's focus has gradually shifted from the suffering caused by the Spanish Civil War to the simple personal suffering. The character in the painting is Doramar, who was a professional photographer when he met Picasso in 1936, and later became Picasso's mistress until 1944.

Picasso once explained, "To me, she is just a woman who loves to cry. For several years, I have been painting her pain and suffering, not through abuse, without any pleasure, but through obedience and visual images. This is profound realism, not just superficial. "
