Dictation
This is a historical photo of Zhang Zhengui taken during the Battle of Shanghai. The soldiers of the People's Liberation Army in the picture, sleeping in clothes and on the streets, fully embodies the strict military discipline of the People's Liberation Army and the valuable quality of "not taking the needle and thread of the masses". After the photo was published, it caused strong shocks at home and abroad. Some people call it a "meeting gift" given by the People's Liberation Army to Shanghai residents. Many foreign media called this photo a "pioneering work" of the People's Liberation Army of China, and asserted that the Kuomintang would never come back. However, when and where was this photo taken at the Battle of Shanghai? Which PLA unit was in the camera? These problems have been inconclusive for many years, and there are many different versions circulating. A few days ago, the reporter of Wen Wei Po contacted the descendants of Lu Rensheng, the photographer of that year, who was the head of the photography team of Xinhua Front Detachment of East China Field Army, and obtained from them a previously unpublished material dictated by Lu Rensheng shortly before his death, which recorded in detail the shooting process of the photo of "People's Liberation Army sleeping on the street". The war correspondent comes from the rural photo studio 1939 10. In October, a new "Snow Photo Studio" was opened in Changshu. This quickly attracted the attention of the local "Jiangnan Anti-Japanese Volunteers" organization. After several months of monitoring, it was confirmed that although this photo studio took photos of Japanese people, the owner of the photo studio was not a traitor. One of the partners of Baixue Photo Studio is my father Lu Rensheng, a native of Bacheng, Kunshan. He is only 20 years old, but he is already an "old master" with seven years of photography experience. In the early summer of the following year, my father joined the China * * * Production Party, joined the "Jiang Kang" and took part in the anti-Japanese work. My father was very low-key before his death and rarely took the initiative to mention the battlefield photos he took later. No one came to investigate his father until the Cultural Revolution. He sometimes comes home and says, "Someone came to see me again today." We surrounded him and asked him to tell the story. Everyone knew that his father was a great hero. At that time, War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression had just finished, and my father was transferred to the frontline reporter of the Political Department of the Central China Military Region. At the beginning of 1947, he became the head of the photography team of Xinhua Front Detachment of East China Field Army. I traveled north and south with Chen Yi and Su Yu, and took many precious photos with historical significance. The famous "Photo of Five Members of the General Front Committee of Huaihai Campaign" is my father's masterpiece in this period. 1949 In May, after the Shanghai Liberation Campaign started, he followed the troops into Shanghai and took photos all the way. When the PLA attacked Shanghai, everyone was familiar with the entry rules formulated by the General Front Committee during the training and consolidation in Danyang. First, heavy weapons are not allowed. Second, people are never allowed to enter the house. My father is from the Propaganda Department, and he knows this very well, so he has been looking for opportunities to shoot relevant scenes in the Shanghai Liberation Movement. Coincidentally, Dai, the deputy division commander of the 59th Division of the 20th Army who participated in the battle, was an old comrade-in-arms of his father "Jiang Kang" and had a very close relationship. The 59th Division was the main attack division of the Battle of Meng Lianggu, and my father also took many photos in the Battle of Meng Lianggu. We speculate that it should be on the morning of May 27th, when Declan went to the streets to check the implementation of the rules for entering the city, his father went with Declan. When they went to the place where the soldiers rested, they saw PLA soldiers lying on the cold and wet concrete floor wearing military caps and undressing, rifles leaning against the wall, and some machine gunners fell asleep and held their weapons tightly in their arms. The People's Liberation Army lined up to camp in the street, not in a mess, but lying sideways, thus extending from the sidewalk on one side of the road to the other ... Feng Bingxing, then the cultural teacher of the 60th Division of the 20th Army 1 78th Regiment1Camp, recalled: "At that time, Nanjing Road was very narrow, and more than 2,000 soldiers of our regiment slept in two rows from the intersection of Zhejiang Road to Tibet Road. Seeing the soldiers lying side by side in the street, my father immediately raised his camera and photographed the unprecedented spectacle in the history of the besieged city. The next morning, my father gave this photo to the former commander. When the commander saw this photo, he couldn't put it down and immediately handed it over to the Political Department of the Military Region. After strict examination, the photos were published by Xinhua News Agency, which immediately caused a strong shock at home and abroad and were reprinted and published by many media. Lu Rensheng's oral materials revealed for the first time that the original photos of sleeping on the street are now in the military museum. Regarding the story behind this photo, Junbo and Nanjing Military Region have sent people to visit their father many times. My father died in the spring of 1980. 1978, his health went from bad to worse, and his eyes were out of sight. Under such circumstances, my father dictated, and my younger brother Lu Liejia (the fourth child of Lu Rensheng) wrote a document detailing the whole process of taking photos of "People's Liberation Army sleeping on the street". To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Shanghai, we decided to publish my father's personal materials through Wenhui.com ... I was sent to a division of the 20th Army, and crossed the Huangpu River from Pudong to the urban area with the troops on the morning of May 26th. At that time, the soldiers obeyed the discipline of entering the city very prominently, and the order was very good when resting on the sidewalk. All meals and boiled water are sent by the company's chef and don't enter the house. The onlookers praised me even more. In the afternoon, the troops advanced to the south of Suzhou River on Nanjing East Road, ready to accept operational orders. At dawn on the 27th, I learned that the troops who entered the city had been sleeping on the sidewalk the first night. In order to avoid losing this great opportunity, I quickly came to the scene regardless of the fatigue of staying up late. I was very excited when I saw this scene. In order to liberate Shanghai, the soldiers bravely killed the enemy and even gave their lives. Care about Shanghainese as much as your parents and brothers, and don't disturb them. This photo was taken by me in the area where soldiers are concentrated west of Nanjing Road and Tibet Road. At that time, the fighting gunfire north of Suzhou Creek was clearly audible. It has been 30 years since the liberation of Shanghai, and whenever I think of this experience, I am greatly inspired ... "Because of this precious personal letter, it can be confirmed that this photo was taken in the early morning of May 27th, 1949, and the PLA in the photo is a soldier of the 20th Army. However, it is a fine tradition of the whole army not to take the needle and thread of the masses, so it is also an honor of our army. Oral: Lu Xiaoge (son of Lu Rensheng) Finishing: Zhou Chen
