Solve all my color correction needs, spyderX Elite Experience.

As a photographer, color display is really important. I did encounter many problems before, because I didn't pay attention to color correction. For example, I learned to adjust the color of INS-style photos at home, and the effect is very different when I open them on my friend's monitor. Because everyone didn't correct the color of the monitor, I argued with my friends for a long time without results. So later, I will rent Spyder5 color calibrator regularly to calibrate the monitor. But after all, renting a house is troublesome, and sometimes there will be queues, so this time I caught up with the double 1 1 and finally decided to make the color calibrator myself.

Because of my experience in using Spyder5 and my consistent trust in Datacolor Deta's color professionalism, I directly targeted Starscream spyderX Elite. Although the price is not the cheapest in the X series, what attracts me is the simple, accurate and efficient experience. In particular, Starscream spyderX Elite has now joined the support for BT.709, DCI-P3 and other color gamut, which fully meets my needs for color correction of photos and videos.

The outer packaging of Starscream SpyderX Elite is relatively simple, with a plastic bracket inside, and the color calibrator is almost embedded in the box, which is quite protective.

The color calibrator of Datacolor Deta seems to be the same shape. The triangle-like shape is relatively small, the shell is made of PVC, and the front is marked with SpyderX, weighing about 280 grams. I can find a drawer to store at will and take it to the office.

The fuselage consists of two parts, which are fixed by two buckles. When in use, it can be opened with a little force and closed when not in use. The thick cover can protect the color correction engine well.

There is a light sensor on the front of the fuselage to support the detection of ambient light.

This big lens-like eye inside is the core sensor unit of Starscream SpyderX.

There is also a standard 1/4 "screw on the side of the fuselage, which can be installed on a tripod for color correction and analysis of projectors and other equipment.

Integrated data line structure, flexible cord, using standard USB-A data interface, and installing anti-interference magnetic ring at the joint position.

In addition, the very important serial number is hidden at the bottom of the box, remember to collect it.

Driver, now the CD is not standard, you need to go to official website to download it yourself, or you can directly ask the customer service to download the link. The current official driver version number is 5.6. When you first enter the program, you need to verify the product serial number. After successful registration, the latest version will be automatically detected and upgraded.

This software is very powerful. You can even find ICC version selection in the settings menu, which is quite professional.

From the functional interface, this spyderX Elite can not only support conventional display devices, but also perform soft proofing on printers or tablet computers, and preview the printing and display effects of devices, with a very wide range of applications.

My KTC H32S 12 monitor just started dual 1 1 this year, and the color performance is not bad. It is said that the RGB color gamut coverage is 120%, but I am not sure about the factory color standard, so I still need a color calibrator to calibrate it in order to use it safely.

The calibration process is relatively simple. Because I used two monitors, I need to choose the equipment here. In the navigation menu, each setting interface has a detailed introduction and explanation, and you can follow the prompts to complete the next step.

Because spyderX Elite has an ambient light sensor, a single ambient light detection is added in the process of color calibration, which can match the use environment of the display and improve the color performance.

Environmental testing shows that the brightness is "very high", so you need a range hood.

I looked up at the light, hahaha. It seems very bright, but fortunately, the brightness of the lamp can be adjusted.

In the whole process of color calibration, the only thing I need to do manually is to put SpyderX at the marked position of the monitor according to the prompt, and try to fit the screen as much as possible to prevent the surrounding light from entering the color calibrator from the edge.

When the back cover of the color calibrator is used as a counterweight module, the length of the suspended data line can be adjusted as required, no additional tools are needed, and the operation is very simple. SpyderX Elite can support curved screens. In order to make the optical sensor of the color calibrator better adapt to the screen, I slightly adjusted the elevation angle of the screen.

The adjustment of brightness refers to my lighting brightness environment. Bring up the display menu for adjustment. The graphic scale table is very intuitive and easy to understand.

Now all monitors can be fine-tuned, and the accuracy can reach 1%, and the set target is easy to achieve.

Due to the built-in independent SoC of Datacolor SpyderX Elite color calibrator, the detection speed is greatly improved, and the whole calibration process takes less than one minute.

After the test, the software will generate the corresponding ICC correction file. Through it, we can correct the color of the display, so that the distorted color is displayed as the correct color.

Compared with before and after color correction, Spyder X has different degrees of fine changes in color, brightness and contrast.

On the left is the performance before color correction. It can be seen that red is obviously more inclined to Yang Hong, and the final result is that it feels more like plastic. The red color on the right returns to more frequent expression after color correction.

In contrast, there is no color correction in the above picture, and the highlight in the middle of the stairs is dead white, so the highlight performance becomes just right after color correction.

Those who like to take portraits must look at this change. The primary color of the display is cool blue, which can't show the texture of the skin well. After color correction, the skin color is much normal, and it feels a little white and a little red.

When the display effect of the monitor is corrected, you can safely color the photos. Don't worry about the subjective color matching error caused by the color cast of the display, which is a very important basis for the later color matching process.

My desktop uses a primary and secondary screen composed of two monitors. Because of different brands and even different panels, when two monitors work together, the color difference is still very large. The MSI display on the left has not been calibrated, and it can be found that the restoration of the lake is a little green. The KTC display on the right has been calibrated with Starscream, and the reflection in the lake is very close to the original image.

In fact, the blue in the picture is obviously different. Here I want to take a screenshot of the lake and make a simple comparison. Is the lake on the left obviously greener?

I'm going to try to synchronize the colors of the two monitors with spyderX Elite to see if their colors can be consistent in the end.

Through color calibration synchronization, spyderX Elite will analyze the color calibration results of two different monitors and generate different ICC profiles. In WIN 10 environment, the new color profile will be automatically loaded separately without manual intervention.

Through color correction, the MSI display on the left has greatly improved the restoration of the lake, and the green problem has also been greatly improved. It's just a pity that the two display panels are still different in subtle colors, because one is IPS and the other is VA, and the hardware quality is very different. However, after color calibration and synchronization, the overall performance of the two monitors basically satisfied me.

The function of Starscream spyderX Elite is very comprehensive for players like me, with fast color changing speed and obvious color changing effect. 10 minutes can complete a monitor. DCI-P3, BT.709 and other new color gamut support are more in line with my current needs for photo editing and video editing. Due to the difference of backlight technology supporting different displays, it can meet the color correction requirements of different displays, which is very friendly for players who have multiple display devices at the same time. You can even use spyderX Elite to correct the color of the projector.

The default settings of many display devices when they leave the factory are actually very conservative. Even you will find that the colors of monitors of the same brand and model are not stable. By using spyderX Elite for calibration, your display device can really enter the full blood state. If you start with a high-end monitor or have multiple display devices, spyderX Elite can help you optimize your experience and improve your work efficiency. The importance is obviously self-evident.
